Have to take my Nephew this year...he’s nevah been. He’s on break from College until feb 10. I hope it freezes up by then . Keep me posted .....and thanks !
-
I don’t see it happening this year honestly for most places.
-
James Eddy and the new place around the bend should get something - I hope… at least a couple weeks… maybe?!
-
Fishhead680 , do you know the name of the new place aronud the bend ?
-
I was in touch with James Eddy Smelt Camps last week, report was "no Ice"
-
Any reports of Shacks on ice ?
-
No ice on the Kennebec, talked to Jim Worthing he said if it ices up now, he won't put the shacks on at this point.
-
Thanks for that info
-
Sorry - missed the question - I believe the new place is named Back 40
-
Some of our lakes with a good population of smelts can be just as fun , with high water flow rivers will not be safe!!
-
I was on yesterday. No luck. Lost an inch of ice overnight from Sunday. 2 inches was about it. Snow ice at that.
-
One person at Water Street in Brunswick just now. Not out very far. No camps or sign or any other activity
-
Pretty sad year for ice
-
Well I guess Jim Worthing changed his mind, drove by his place this morning and he has about 2 dozen shacks on the ice ready to go, go get em!
-
They need to be very careful ! EVERY WARMER DAY MORE CURRENT, which can lead to fast thining of ice
-
Smelting at Worthings tomorrow at 4:15pm. Hopes of catching a bunch are not high, but will report Thursday
-
Thanks for the up lifting report

I have only done smelting in a shanty, down in NH on small streams. Without ice, a dock with a shanty on it would get you over the same fish... Would something like that work on your rivers up there? Anchored floating huts? Just a thought...
-
just got notification that James Eddy has shacks out and is open
-
They won’t be out long . Looks like another warm up coming .
-
4 man shack with jig poles, didn't catch any, and don't think the other shacks did any better. Still nice to get out at least once this year

used to be able to stand on the docks here in Maine and cast treble hooks with a weight on the end and snag them as you reeled in, state law doesn't allow that anymore.

Is it the snagging or fishing for them from the docks (open water) that is not allowed?
-
Snagging, or foul hooking
-
I suppose you could float a shack on the river and fish for them that way, that probably would be we quite an adventure, but still not sure if that would be legal because it wouldn't be through the ice
-
Worthing took his shacks off.
-
Last day for james eddy today
