I still want to know what you'd do with them once they're dead ??? Seems like a fish that old wouldn't be too tasty, but i've never tried it  :-X

Arch - Basically, you got it.  The spear head is attached to a heavy handle, but not bolted on.  When you stick one, the head pops loose and you haul them in with a rope attached to the spear head.  Never done it, but have a few buds that do.

Pikeguy - I've never tried one, but everybody I've talked to that has says they're excellent.  I guess they slab them into steaks and bake or smoke them.  I'd like to try some, but can't get anybody to give me some, so they must be pretty good.  Even the eggs are supposed to make great caviar (sp?).

smoke them and you have a meal that will match any salmon that you have tried.

I've seen some surfacing on the Suwannee River in FLA. They are 6 + ft long. Can't mess with then, GFC will arrest you big time.

Just built my new spearing shack, and got the barbs sharpened up. It's going to be a good year I hope. Ice and good water on Bago will make it an enjoyful few days of spearing. Hoping to spear my 1st one. 12yr drought is starting to get to me.
