Well the boys struck gold again today! I filled my bucket no problem and I didn't start till eleven. Ice was great heading out n getting soft at 6 on the way in. Tomorrow looks good with the wind laying down a bit. Use caution as always we only have a few more days.

Awesome vid, Cowboy.  Then again, watching it makes me sad that it's almost over, too.
If my advice sounds good, you probably need more practice.

I don't believe you can ice fish the power rez.
Water level fluctuates day to day drastically.
Very dangerous to say the least.

I think your ice fishing days are running out on your this year.
But if you gotta do some try SBH or Dann Road Pond off Transit Rd south of Lockport.

Mike ... Just got home .. It was slow for us. We didn't get lines in the water until the crack of 11:30 though .. Some said it was an early bite? We ended up with about 20 or so?

Pequod .. You snuck off .. I looked over and you were gone. I would have given you a ride to shore !

Was out there today. Ice is great, and with the cool nites, should hold up for you. Was a early bite, at noon, most anglers started to move or left completely. More bites dead sticking the minnows, vs constant jigging , pausing then re-jigging. Lots of fish, but they seemed to be heading more Easterly now. Sure beats Sturgeon Point.

Went off the Catt yesterday. Great day to be out. Mostly a early bite, picked up a few throughout the day tho. If the wind cooperates, conditions should hold for a while. Caught about 30, kept 13 in the 11-13" range.

Squaw Island north end below the Black Rock Lock has perch in the slam water areas there. The foot of Ontario Street Park is also a good shore fishing spot.
You can not take too many perch, unless you can not clean them, give them to your friends and neighbors to clean and cook. The more perch you take, the faster and bigger the rest  will grow. The walleyes and bass will survive from fry to fingerlings.

OK.
You gave a thumbs down to my suggestions.
So where would you suggest this guy take his family ice fishing that's safe and he could put something in the freezer?

Chautauqua out of the Viking Club or Midway is a sure bet right now. Last Saturday I was on my way home by 9:00 am with my limit of 8 & 9" perch. It was non-stop which keeps the young anglers interested. The hour drive is worth it for the amount of fish you catch.

Was out there Wednesday and Thursday ice is good 14" plus
everywhere I drilled. It should hold up for another week. Tommorows
wind is supposed to be out of the SW shouldn't be a problem.
The fishing has been best in the AM and late afternoon. Good luck
Stay safe.

Thanks for the update Iceman. Can you or anyone else who has been out recently tell me how the surface conditions are? Slush, bare ice, water? I may give it a try tomorrow. If I do, I'll be walking and would like to know how light I should pack and if I should plan on using ice cleats (creepers). Thanks again.

Yes on the cleats, mostly smooth ice some softer spots. The past couple days have been cold enough for the top to freeze up real good. Not a bad walk in my opinion. Hope that helps.
