The Prendergast ice is just fine.  Walk anywhere you want.  Haven't seen a machine out there yet though.  I'd walk right now.

looking to take my son out for first time this year. i was thinking mayville because i believe it is the safest ice and i know he will have a good time catching Dinks steadily. i was wondering after hearing pendergast is a good spot with bigger perch and possibly some walleye last post said ice pretty safe. Any replies are much appreciated.

thanks
stay safe

You got it ... Mayville's your best bet -- ice is pretty good (I was there a few days ago) , you don't have to walk far to be on fish, and your searching efforts will be less drilling and more fishing (good for the kids) -- size wise, you'll be in the known small fish, but abundant amount of fish part of the lake -- great spot for the kids !

Imfishking there is a small parking lot directly across the street from Burris bay boat launch. I'm mean small, enough room for maybe 20 vehicles. Get there early because it fills up fast. Other than that I'm not sure where else to park. I'm going to try mayville in the morning. Lots of parking up that way. Hope this helps. Good luck and stay safe.

Snow on 90% of the top. Creepers are not necessary. Any one know of the DEC stocking 8-10" eyes in the lake recently. Seems to be quite the population of them this year. Maybe just had a good spawn 2 years ago.

Was fishing there.  The ice is plenty safe there.  Last hole I drilled there was about 9 inches.  About 4 of black ice and 5 white.

Was out off Mayville yesterday and as bad as watching the thundering herd congregate in one area, lets hope a mountainous pile of perch are being removed. We got their early and set up shop in an area that we knew the herd woundnt venture to because it would require slightly more than a bare minimum worth of effort  ;D  We got into the perch really well. Size of course was an issue but managed to fill the bucket with enough for a camp fish fry. Weather was great, ice was great.

They are stocking more and I believe from what I have read that consistent naturally reproduction is not substantial enough maintain a good fishery on eyes for chautauqua. That being said I landed 12 eyes yesterday between 8 to 12 inches off mission meadows. They were so thick that two of them were foul hooked.

took my son out of Pendergast on Saturday we were furthest ones out in about 35 F.O.W found a good spot and the perch were under us all day and did not have to move we lucked out. Kept my little boy interested all day. had to weed through them but managed to take some with us. Ice was good a couple guys out with wheelers flying around and snowmobiles going by.

stay safe

Stopped at the hatchery at Prendergast last year my buddy thought it was closed I wasn`t sure. There was 1 guy working there. I forget what size he said the walleye were when they stocked them. I remember the muskies were double the length. I think 6-8 inch for walleye, and 12 inch for the muskies. Last ice season perch really seemed to be smaller than usual.

On the subject of the little walleye, we ran into a handful of them (they were ~7-8 inchers) in Oct between LP and Tom's Pt schooled up with perch and thought just THAT was a very good sign for future.  What I'm reading here is even better.  Prior to Oct, had not seen one juvenile walleye in the lake in 3-4 yrs of spending a decent amt of time on it.   Let's hope the perch run interference and sacrifice themselves every time a muskie gets after one of these little gems.

When I was catching and marking the little eyes 8"-10", they were definitely hanging with the bigger ones. Seemed that one of the little ones would come up and peck at the rap then fly back to the bottom...and then whammo...keeper time.
