Longpoint bathhouse side had 2" of ice in 8' of water. Wouldn't dare to go on the marina side.

Hey Tim,

I fished LP bath house today.  There is with out a doubt safe ice.  There are also areas where the ice would be considered by some to be too thin.  I walked out from the bath house to the 32' flat.  Approximately .3mi.  I used the spud every couple steps and found the ice was very inconsistent.  I found ice from 3" of white soft ice to 5" of clear black.  People just need to use their heads and be careful.  I fished a hole with 5", walked 15' and the spud went through with one whack.

If the snow doesn't kill us, there should be no problem with being ready for the tourney.

Game hog, I was at the bath house all morning.  Were you in or near the guys with the big clam flip over?  If so another 100' from where you were was an easy 5" of ice.  110' feet was back to 2" white ice.

My point is not to dispute you, but point out that people need to check for themselves.  Reports on this site are great and very helpful, however nothing will replace a spud bar and common sense.

I was out towards you guys with the big red sled.  How'd you guys do out there?  I didn't catch anything until I moved in shallower.  I noticed you guys didn't move much until you left.  Any sizeable perch or any walleye?

Did a drive by of Burtis just before dark tonight. Lake looks great last nights rain did us a favor. No snow on top and all the slush looks froze tight. Creepers are going to be needed if venturing out in the am.

Streamcreeper-
Who was that shady dude with the 1980s fishfinder you were out there with?  I heard he was the dumbass that thought the two of you should drag all the way out there for a few tiny perch! lol.  call me about later in the week.

Glad to hear no snow with the cold temps. Good to go this weekend. Different story near Buffalo. Most of the roads closed, and travel bans. Snowing, and blowing like crazy.

south end had OK ice on the shore, and 6 from there on.... about 4 inches of snow on the ice too..... , north end was very bad spud when threw every wack at the shore line some guys were brave and went out any ways, this blast of cold should make the shore line harden up

I'm pretty sure Chautauqua Reel Outdoors: http://www.chautauquareeloutdoors.com/bait-tackle-shop-chautauqua-lake/
Has them in stock.  At least I got spikes from them 2 wks ago.  They even got the young lads trained to tell the difference between a spike and a waxie unlike some of the millenials at the Hut. Great selection of fishing bait and gear overall.

Mike,
I'll be in to talk about my sponsorship for the pro-am.

what can be done about the dink perch problem on Chautauqua lake? everybody take 5 fisherman with them and everyone keep their limit? think it will ever come back as a good perch lake as far as good sized perch?
