the TriggerX 1" Minnow was a huge producer for me last season, this year i'm looking forward to trying some of the eurotackle micro plastics.

The deadliest plastic I've ever used was a plain grub with a flat tail and it only came in natural cream color.  Since I fished a bobber pretty much and all I did was jig the bobber to rock and the little jig and plastic did a dance with it flat tail.  Then came the curly tail grubs that everyone uses and that replaced the plain flat tail grub.  It wasn't quite the same.  I didn't get as much bites on my slow jigging method, I had to do it more of a power finesse way.  I needed to get the curly tail squiggly dancing.

So when by chance I was having a tough mid winter and was having some moderate success with the Powerbait Bloodworms.  I decided to use that clearance Little Atom's Skimpies and Dupies.  By chance, bam wham fish on! Then I was convinced finally at use of soft plastics for ice fishing.  The miniature sized plastics worked for tight lipped fish, but I had a harder time trying to get more aggressive fish, they just weren't into nor not nearly interested in such a small morsel.  When I by chance used the Northland Mimic Minnow plastic jigs and had moderate success in open water, I decided to bring them into ice fishing.  Well of course at first there where really two types, the curly tail type and the paddle tail type.  While I did get a few fish here and there with the paddle tail which was available down to the 1/16 th oz version.  It was still kind of not that hot.  Then with Northland introduced the Mimic Minnow Fry, it was the ticket.  The flat tail type, perfect for rod tip quivering.  Yep that has become my next best ice plastic to use.

Im pretty limited in the plastics ive used but the little atom micro nuggies and wedgies work great and i have confidence that i could catch enough fish that i could leave the live bait at home.

The scuttle stinger or a Slicee from p3 have been my go too this year. Unfortunately the tiny tails which have great action usually get bitten off if they don’t take the whole thing at once.

Northland Impulse Bloodworm. Long skinny  body and tail that wiggles even on a deadstick rod if you breathe on the line.  Too bad they don't make 'em any more.

They've quit making them!  That's a shame as they worked really well for fish catching.

Gulp! Waxies in natural white or pink work well for me. I don't ice fish  lot of plastics, but those get used a fair amount if the bite is hot to save live bait.

Northland still sells the bloodworms on their website but only in very small packs of 2 rigged and 3 tails for $4.59! What a ripoff! They used to sell containers of 20 tails for around the same price. They are my favorite plastic for crappie and trout. I was able to stock up on a few containers that I found on eBay a few months ago.

Looks like what we called back in the 70's a Mr Twister tail. Only shorter.

Only time I use plastic is for crappie thru the ice.  White Maki Plastis on a small white right angle jig tipped with a grub, any style with a lot of wiggly legs will work.
