Title: Much Needed Wiper Action
Post by: DrCro on Mar 22, 2019, 07:48 PM
First true open water fishing last night with friends on a private section of good ol' Jackson.  The wipers sure moved in. No keepers but these fish fight like no other. Couldn't miss catching a shad if i tried.

That’s great to hear. Those wipers next year or two should be a good size and even put up a better fight.

Yea only ice I noticed was on the shoreline and that was last Friday, so it's definitely all open.  Fishing has been good.

Thats some great wiper action you guys got into. It just started for us here also. We fish them the same here as they follow the walleye spawners around. Here's a tactic you might want to try if you havent already, after the walleye spawn they go into a false spawn of their own here and we kill them bait bombing mussels on typical bass spawn areas. Just make sure you anchor your pole good if you try this tactic as they will take off with your set up in no time. These state records were caught at night and I would guess they were bait bombing. Most of the best action I get is right about the same time you guys were fishing. I dont fish into the dark to late myself as they tend to shut off where I fish them when the sun goes down, but they can be had if your out there that late

Oh my that is awesome brother! I am going to be targeting a master angler wiper this year. I know the places to go to, it will be a lot of moving around i'm sure just to locate some. I can't wait to go back out to Sterling.
