Overnight in popup tent?
« on: Nov 11, 2018, 11:34 PM »
Been thinking about trying this for a few winters now and have finally gotten around to gathering what I will probably need.   I already fish out of a cabelas 6x8 popup with a buddy heater (won't use at night).  Picked up a hunting cot from cabelas, army surplus sleeping bag, a decent used gas generator, and a nice ceramic fan heater.  Generator would be placed downwind of course.

Propane camp stove for the vittles, and camp toilet for the obvious.

Anybody else overnight in their tent?

You're going to want a sleeping pad or some kind of underquilt with the cot. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find some old threads on it. I'd recommend a battery powered CO detector too.

Buddy heaters have the CO detectors built in.

Buddy heaters have the CO detectors built in.

No they don't. They will shut off if the oxygen level is too low, but they won't warn you if the CO levels are elevated. A simple battery powered detection is cheap insurance.

We've been working on a related thread for a few years, here:

Hopefully something helpful there.  Your contribution would be most welcome.

I always want to take one of those old truck camper heaters that do not need power out ice fishing.
This way I can vent it out a side window or shove a side stack out a zipper door.

Thank you for the correction. Very important to know.

For those concerned about the CO poisoning, that's why I've got the generator that will be run outside/ downwind of the tent with electric heat at night.
