Sask Lake Depth Maps
« on: Jan 17, 2014, 04:24 PM »
Hey guys,

I've compiled a list of all of the depth maps available on the government website into an easier to navigate list. Check out: http://www.saskatchewanhuntandfish.com/depth-maps/ if you're looking for a depth map for the lake you fish.

There used to be a website that did the same thing, and I used it all the time, but it shut down. I always found that site useful so I decided to try and re-create it. Let me know if you find it useful or not.

Thanks for doing this!

My only suggestion would be if there was a search function for the depth maps (i tried the other one and assume it only works for outfitters?).  Or alternatively if all of the maps for each letter were displayed on one single page per letter.  Although going through each letter page by page isn't too bad (certainly better than navigating by the web map on the govt site).

It would be cool if you could incorporate google maps on to your site where you could tag each lake with a link for the depth map.  Allowing people both the option to search out the maps with the google map search bar or alternatively by browsing the map.  If that was possible it would allow a guy to plan a route to the lake too, all at one resource.  Couple that with the list option and i think you would have it perfected!  Not sure if something like that is possible?

Thanks again for taking your own time and cash to make a better resource for the public!

The database has been updated to include population testing results from 2011 and 2012 for the lakes that were sampled.

Hey guys ! there is a whole data base of Saskatchewan lake depth maps online Google bathymetric maps saskatchewan. It a lot of them arent perfect but they are relatively accurate. For the Fishing lakes around Ft, Qu'appelle I go to ISC in regina they give you a huge up to date wall map of the for lake . Last mountain lake is also avaiable. Maps are only $12.00. I take pictures of them on my phone, sort them and voila ! Always right there on hand comparable to other mapping or gps apps so I can pin point my location pretty closely. Definitely worth the 12 bucks for the maps.

I've updated the site and added google maps for some of the more popular lakes.

There are over 700 lakes in the database and I don't know waypoints for all of them so if you look up a lake and the site doesn't display a satellite image that means I either don't know or haven't entered its waypoint yet. When I have time Ill try to add a feature to allow you to submit waypoints for the lakes that aren't displaying a google map.

Great to see someone take charge! Don't see Kipabiskau on there but oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

It would be excellent to see updated readings for the lakes in Sask however it's likely not feasible. I wonder what inspired the first depth reading initiative and what it would take to perform another one.

Sweet! Just like the old www.saskfishinglakes.ca. The government site sucks and ISC blows too.

Update: The site has been updated again. Now all of the lakes with a depth map also have a google map satellite view.
