Tell me about it, I'm another 1-1.5 hrs north of you and the ice went out again yesterday. I'm heading up next Thursday for about 10 days.

Absolutely painful is all I can say!  I still have ice when I log in and look at my security cam.  However, that ice is probably 1/4" at this point and it looks like we get 1 day in the single digits for the next 10 days.  That's not going to cut it.

I just got an email from my neighbor....our 650 acre on the boarder is wide open in the middle. It's average depth is maybe 7-8'. So larger lakes up in Lando, like LVD and Black Oak, those will be lucky to be iced over by Christmas.

The folks I feel the worst for are the resorts, bars and restaurants who depend on income from snowmobilers.

I do fish all of the above.  Brother and I went out yesterday and kept 14 gills between 8 and 9 1/2 inches.  Had to have caught at least 100 fish to get those keepers.  Kinda scary walking on ice with 6 inches of slush on top over 28 feet of water.  Plenty of ice though at 3-4 inches.

Two years ago we got together at Fox Lake, and I believe HIMO set that up. Last year I don't think we got together due to late ice conditions. This year I haven't heard anything on it, but if something is put together and I get the time off I'll be there. Just hope the ice shows up before us...

I remember the days of fishing Grass Lake, and other areas along the  river,  catching 100 plus fish just to get a half dozen keepers.  Heck of a fishery, just hard to get it past the little ones to get to the keepers.  Used to get some really good northern too.

Do you ever ice fish walleyes below the dam in Trempealeau?

Just got back from a week up on the Wi/Mi boarder. The lake I'm on is a 650 acre, shallow and weedy. I got up last Sunday and we had open water in the middle. Popped a couple of holes in our bay and came up with 3-5" of ice.

So I decided to hop on the ATV and head over the Cisco Chain and saw dudes out there 1/2 mile with atvs and sleds. So I spend the entire week over there. Makeing my way out further and further as the days went by. By saturday we had about 8-9" of decent ice about 1 mile off the landing. Going was easy. We only had 1-2" of snow cover and missed the storm last monday that dumped 10" on SE Wis. Fishing Walleyes with flags only. Caught a bunch of dinks and kept 5 for eaters.

Up until 1992 I fished walleyes below dams quite often.  That year we were fishing below the Genoa dam in late February on 30" of ice when I went to "relieve" myself on the Minnesota side of the river.  I missed my track from the first "relief" I had taken and fell through and landed on top of the wingdam there.  Got wet to my thighs and have never been out there since.  I CAN TAKE A HINT!!!!

Yeah you have to be extremely careful.   One Saturday I was fishing about 50 yards on the main channel from the bullnose, and about 75 yards below it. If memory serves, there was 10-12 inches of ice where I was.  I  was catching a lot of small sauger,  and eyes. There was a guy (if I mentioned his name, I am sure you would know him), who was way up by the locks standing on ice, but fishing in the open water.  Since the fish were biting so good on Saturday, and was fun, I went back on Sunday, only to find where I had fished the day before was wide open.   That was the last time that I fished there.  The unnamed gentleman must have been fishing on almost nothing. Very lucky he was not a statistic.
