I have both portables set up in the garage, I have gone through all the reels, I have fired up the auger, I have sharpened the blades, hooks and anything else I could think of. I have even shot my deer. (bow) I am now checking in with my Ice Shanty brother. Therefore I am now officially ready for ice fishing 8)

I'm one of those "bow only freaks" Nothing against gun guys, I just had a "hot round" zip buy my head close enough to hear it. (hunting public land) I hung up the deer rifle right then and there. If I wanted to get shot at I would have enlisted!! ;D

Sorry didn't see your message. I started building an 8x8 permanent. It's pretty much done now. 3/4" plywood floor, stick framed with 2x4" wannabees (i actually started with 2x2s but added another layer.) Added the second layer of studs so i could do 3 1/2" fiberglass insulation. 10,000 btu propane heater. Barn red in color!

I just bought a Frabill Prowler GT 2 person flip over a month ago. Can't wait to use all this stuff!!!

Yeah, I hear you about the eerie whizzing sound..... but we don't enlist to get shot at either, but it does happen.  Unless I die, I'll always hunt gun season.  Guess I'm the opposite of you, only gun hunt, and I gonna give pistol hunting a go.  I really don't see the appeal of bow hunting... I tried a few years back, what a waste, I could have spent that money on some good ice fishing gimmicks instead.  I guess it's just not deer hunting to me unless I smell gunpowder and hear the loud bang.

TIBS (Justin) from Fox Lake checking in, again.

Tainterslayer:  Barn Red Shack!!!!  I love it, that's what I painted mine too!  Did you go all out and put white trim on it too?

I was thinking about it but I'm sick of spending money on it and just want it to be done! So it probably won't happen. Chances are it would just look funny too. Might try to sell it next year and then build one that could literally serve as a small cabin.

A shout out to you, and all the Service men & women who "stand between their loved homes and wars desolation" I meant no disrespect buy that comment.

Good luck to ya with the pistol, that would be kinda cool! (I'll leave a few of 'em in the woods for you 'gun boys ;D)

Well, keep your holes clean, lines tight, and flags in their upright position!!

No offense taken. ;)  4 yrs ago, That was the longest year of my life....  At least I got a 2 week leave to come home and get some ice fishing in late in the season.

The pistol thing will be interesting this year, considering I've never shot any handgun larger than 9mm before I got this .44 mag.  It's one big piece of stainless steel, so far when I've been on the range with it, I'm having trouble holding it steady enough to get consistent good shots, gonna have to use a shooting stick this year.  The thing weighs about 3 lbs loaded.
