In your opinion

What's the best panfish lake you have fished or frequent in PA? Quality and/or quantity. I know there may be some controversy, but these are only opinions. Myself, in my area, I have to say Sayers for the shear numbers of panfish, but not so much big ones. Sure we pull out some nice fish, but none on a constant basis every time out. But some guys catch and release, so it doesn't matter so much to them anyway.

For numbers & size, it's hard to beat Pymatuning here in northwest PA.
Lots of slabs >12" and some BULL gills if you know where to look.
Average perch size has gone up the last few years as well, IMO.
If you ever get hit with a bucket of fish, be sure to close your eyes. ;)

I've never fished Pymy so I can't compare it to others, but without question, the hands-down best panfish lake in eastern PA is Promised Land.  Great numbers and size for perch, gills, seeds and crappies.  Definitely the best all-around panfish lake I've ever fished.

geeze frank,  i guess you have not found the spot yet in those 20 years. ;)

next time Im home visiting my dad and Tim and the kids we'll have to get together and fish for some panfish and if your lucky and want to stick it out well get a few eyes on the ice also.

only thing is if you speak of the spot i cant tell what the repercussions are gonna be.   :nono:

Only can respond to pocono lakes.  I fish about as much as anyone and find that the lakes seem to vary at what time on year.  I will start with my opinion.  Shohola is loaded, Greeley next. wallenpaupack you can fill a cooler if you fish deep 15 to 20' in june and july.  Pecks is so weed covered that you can't get to them but late ice you see what that lake hides huge gills and perch.  promised land just ok,  whiteoak is one of the best, white deer is the only place i see schools of them swimming in the middle of the lake and this happens evey year.  Every lake can produce good fish at times.  Fairview is tough but i hit it at times when we would take good fish on every cast and the next day next to nothing.

ive only ice fished a hand full of places, but pymo has big *ss crappies, and lots of them, and above average perch.i"ve only caught one gill there, though.  arthur and curwensville dam seem to  have a lot of jumbo perch. glendale has the quantity in gills and perch, and has some nice crappie numbers. but pymo is awsome...

Dont forget the erie docks areas. Some huge crappies as it doesn't get pressured like the inland lakes. I'd vote Pymy for big crappies tho. Ice and open water.

IMO, Sayers for numbers, with an occasional really nice fish.  For quality fish, in our "area", it's a real toss up between Montour, Rose Valley and Hunters.  Of course, we have also gotten into some really nice fish at Blackie as well.
