I've read that using Pam spray (or vegitable oil) will keep the ice off.  I haven't tried it either though.

Yep. Before you fry your eggs, spray your spring bobber. ;)

unless you are in a shelter it is hard to keep them open.  i know that alil bit of vegetable oil will help keep your hole open but have no idea about the bobber

I prefer the St.Croix spring bobbers. They cause me less freezing issues than any other sb I have. The ice that forms can be pinched off fairly quick.

lol...I must have the fever already...when I first saw this, thought it said 'spring gobblers'. ::) ;D

For spring bobbers, I like the st.croix as well. Even the old schooleys aren't bad.
But those little pen spring ones are useless unless you're in a nice warm hut.

Im a guitar player and use the ends i cutt off my stirngs. Works better then any spring bobber i have tried.

That's a good idea...have some old ones I saved.
I assume you're using a heavier string...maybe an acoustic low e?
If you ever get hit with a bucket of fish, be sure to close your eyes. ;)

I agree with the guitar dudes but if you want a surefire way throw away your reels and go back to hand over hand. You not only will have no ice up, but will catch more fish than trying to reel. Don't laugh- try it. You'll see

then worry about tangling lines in ice and snow nick the line on jagged edges = week line loss of lure and fish you hand line i will reel mine up thanks    hand line if you are in 5 ft of water  not deeper  like the others said put in your mouth

Schooley rods are CHEAP and have the best spring bobber I ever used. I have never had one freeze either. You can check them out at Fish USA. ;D

WD-40...every tackle box should have a fresh can. Great for keeping hooks from rusting and keeps ice off of your gear. Also good to spray on your lures before casting in spring/summer...leaves a nice oil trail on a crankbait during retrieve. IMO
