HOW FAR IS YOUR DESTINATION TO ICE FISH?
« on: Dec 30, 2010, 10:26 PM »
Maybe a little something different to talk about and share. My farthest place that I love to fish is rose valley, it's really hit or miss but when it's on it's on. Granted it's only about an hour and half from my house it's far enough considering i don't really like to get up at 4 am. to make dawn on the ice. What's your favorite place to fish?

Rose valley is a 20 min drive for me.  Dont fish it as much now as in the past.  Would like to buy a camera and find some structure or weeds to fish over.  My last time here, the guy next to me stopped over with a camera, he checked all my tip up holes, only to find dirt bottom  in all of them!  not gonna have a productive day fishing like that

Where I've been putting my most time in the past 2 weeks is under 2 miles from home...but I've been known to drive 150+ miles each way to fish for a day  ;) ;)

Montour Preserve is my home lake.  It's less than 20 minutes away, but can be hit and miss at best.  I normally drive 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to some of my favorite places.  Rose Valley, Sayers, Black Mo, and Walker are all around an hour or less away.

My "home" lake is about forty min. away, but some years doesn't even have safe ice. I have often driven two hrs. or more just for a day trip.

Closest water was North Park lake...Three min. from my house...With that location, the balance of ice fishing lakes that are close by are obvious.  But I usually end up at Moraine, Pym, Wilhelm, or Erie.

That's the bad thing about state college, it's right in the middle of nothing. Except for colyer, my closest lake is sayers which is still almost a half hour and it's really only safe to get on (main lake) for a few weeks unless it stays really cold. By the way does any one know if the main lake is good to go out from the cut like the whole way across?

Closest is 5mins. away and I rarely fish it. Typical drive for me is 45mins. one way, but I do take road trips and do travel +2hrs. one way to fish sometimes. I don't have a "home lake". I fish where I like and at certain times, where the only fishable ice may be. I like to visit other areas of the state and fish different waters for different species whenever I can.

I Consider my home Lake to be Glendale. We ice fish there 95% of the time. Only about 25 miles from home. But a dream vacation for me, being a huge Green Bay Packers fan, would be go check out a Packers game at Lambue Feild, then spend a few days ice fishing around Wisconsin. Maybe someday. Nice to dream.

Where I can fish, Frances Slocum, is about 10 mintues away give or take. I haven't gone there this year and don't plan on it, seeing as it's generally small fish. I've been driving to Harris Pond (about 30 minutes) but mostly Sylvan Lake which is maybe 2 minutes more down the road. Haven't hit for first light yet, but I'm going out tomorrow. New place, out by Tunkhannock somewhere. I'll find out in the morning haha.

Our two local lakes are about 10 miles, & the GOOD spots are about 45-60 miles away.

Sounds like most everyone has a pretty short drive to fish, for the most part anyway.
