make sure the hex "teeth" in the chuck are set properly onto the hex grooves of the auger.  Only thing I can think of with the limited info you have given us.

Intermittent rotation means to me the auger is stopping once in a while.  Your K-drill- Milwaukee setup drives your auger so your drill is slipping.  Your drill must be going bad.

Or, your drill setting might not be set to maximum "drill" but to a lower torque setting.  It is adjustable.

"Intermittent auger rotation slippage"    When you say slippage, do you mean the drill keeps turning but the auger does not?

There is a drive bolt under the foam float.  I can not imagine it shearing but I suppose that is possible, might check to see if the bolt is intact.

If the drill is stopping, I'd have the drill checked out at a service center.
take care,

What model Milwaukee ? What amp hour battery? What size K-Drill? How much ice are you drilling through and are you clearing out the hole ? The K-Drill will bind in wet ice even on thinner ice .
