Title: Devils Lake
Post by: jdm on Oct 24, 2003, 08:17 PM
Has anyone been out to Devils Lake for perch recently? I went 2 years ago and it was slow. We ended up fishing alkaline Lake, about 60 minutes south and tore the perch up. They wern't Devils size, but they averaged 11". I would like to get out to Devils Lake this winter, Maybe late Feb, or early march.

I've never been to Devil's Lake jdm, but I've read a lot about it. Hell of a yellow perch lake they say, which is right up my alley. Love those yellow perch!

I havent been there and even with major travel plans this winter dont plan on going. When was the last time anyone heard a good perch report form Devils lake? Try Early 2000 for me. Back then didnt have time or wherewithal. Now got both but not this fool. That lake got attacked by overpromotion. I also have heard some complete BS stories about how perch in Devils Lake get turned off by cold fronts but walleyes dont. Yeah right! This was from a outdoor personality from SD with the initials Tony Dean. Devils Lake still tremendous walleye fishery but laws are designed to protect walleyes. NDs perch laws didnt exist until this or last calender year at the earliest. Too late folks.

We fished Devil's lake in early March 02-03, Had great success  both years. I would recomend hiring a guide, It's a big body of water, and If you don't know where the fish are you could spent a lot of time looking for them, I can see how some people could come home dissapointed.
