Ice is Nice.
« on: Dec 11, 2019, 07:54 PM »
Couldn't bear to go to a "Park" and slime it up. ;D So we sweated out a couple limits between 3 guys.  Most were caught  in 18" of water. when you miss a hookset in 18" of water the freekin spoon comes rocketing thru the hole its hilarious. :P

Grind it out kinda day I blame the full moon.

Safety glasses are a necessity under those shallow conditions.  Were you limited on areas to fish due to lack of thickafugginuff ice?

Actually quite a bit of ice we drilled 125 holes searching.  Deepest water we found was 14 ft.  Just no fish any deeper than 3 ft.   Better than working! ;D

Snow came and went but it certainly added to the sweat factor.  Not really deep just enough to annoy.

We’re you guys the first to trail blaze or had someone been back there already?
Did you venture back to the inlet?

Very interesting why they were so shallow.  See anything in their stomachs that might give a clue?  For that matter, what do you find in their stomachs in that particular lake (if you don’t mind me asking)?

One of mine spit out a 3" perch. We find those redworms often.

1st ones back as far as I could tell. Went to inlet very shallow in fact we only caught 1 perch anywhere else.

On a side note the 6" Mora Fuel combo was awesome.  Im using the 2604 drill with 725 in. lbs and a 5AH batt. It easily drilled 100 holes thru 6-8" of ice Less than 9.5 lbs  trudged it easily thru the snow and hills.

I'm finally getting on board, got a 2804 with 7" mora, haven't had a chance to use it yet.
If I don't like mora, I'll look into a new bit

On the Mora all it takes is a little downward push the instant you hit the trigger and it wont skate around.   Really not even a push just hold it firmly and perpindicular to the ice.   Common sense.

Awesome there is good ice there. I don't see any pictures of methane holes so that is good. One of these days I will have to go up there and try to limit out myself. Not much of a perch fisherman, but my 5 year old loves eating fish. Would be cool to catch a mess of the best tasting fish for him to eat.

Don't even need your Marcum fishing in 18" of water!  One rod, a jigging rap or two, and a few waxies should get you through the day.
That'll give you plenty of space in the bucket to carry 'Stones!   ;D

We really had to work, and sweat for those perchies.  Thanks to slayer for lugging the drill.  If I had to keep up with my hand auger, I'd be lined up for shoulder surgery right now.  Ice seemed to be either 6" or non-existent, depending on area of the lake.  Surprisingly hard to locate good schools.  The perch that we did find kept moving to new places and it took constant drilling to keep catching.  I took the prize for numbers of tiny perch - guess I need to trade in my tear drop jig for something bigger.  Great exercise.  Good trip!

Yah Shoe always an adventure to Jasmin Lake.   You could feel the focus and concentration in the air. We only had like 8 perch at 130pm. But we finished strong.
