You guys think the PVC auger cover would work for a Nils?  Going to be buying a Nils, and I've heard the stock cover is garbage.  Was going to buy a Cold Snap, but PVC is cheaper...

All augers, EVERY KIND, except Mora, come with, or have aftermarket cover options that are suitable... They just don't make anything good for them, so I made that.. It won't work the same with a Nils, at least I don't believe, I don't have one in hand..

I love the PVC cover . I used the idea on my mora .   For Nils it's hard to beat the cold snap covers . There not homemade or cheap but they work and fit great .

GB,

That's what I've read about the cold snap covers, they just work great...

I think about half of the moras never get broken, because they blow away, so light and flimsy... Lol..

Thanks CW!

I thought about a PVC cap, seemed totally logical, easy and.....(after a few phone calls)

Not cheap lol..

Anything over 4" was just nutz expensive..Like over $25 or so...

But I'm always looking for alternatives, and would love to share if I find something..

On that Mora style PVC cover, just to add, I also drilled small drain holes in the bottom, so no matter the position of the rig, it will drain as things melt. Don't have to worry about rusting as much...

I've been a fan of your fabrication & designs Scratcher, all well done! But lets face it, not everyone has your talent for it. I came up with a rod holder system I'd like to share with you and the group. I try to keep things as cheap and down dirty as possible, something the most challenged can fabricate. Here is my rod holder system I've been using for several years on three different flip shacks. You will need a heavy coat hanger and a drill. Secure if a big fish is on unattended, and fast hook set when attended. The shape can be made anyway that works for your particular sled and rod with a little experimentation. The small drilled holes do minimal damage to the tub. Hope this helps some people save some time and money. Again, great thread Ice Scratcher!

Thanks Rugburn!!

Awesome design, I know you're capable of some metal work even I'm not able to do..

Quick, simple, cheap... But most importantly, effective!!

Love it man...

Here is a few more pics of the old Yukon 2 man. Some are inward facing and some out. There are no rules, whatever works for your particular rod. And it's easy to make in field adjustments for a visitor with a different rod butt. The big deal is near zero weight, zero cost.

Didn't want to hijack your thread, just add to it!

Heck yeah, the only issue I have with that idea is I didn't think of it first... ;D

Really like the no weight, no cost..

Theoretically, I know aluminum wouldn't allow for more than a couple adjustments before work harding a snapping.. Stainless slightly tough for field adjustments.. Heavy coat hanger wins, but to keep rust at bay, maybe electrical shrink wrap before or maybe even after bending?

Anyone else that has innovation or ideas, please feel free to share...

Thanks again Rugburn!!

The key to the hole location lies in getting it close to the vertical wall of the tub, when leverage is applied downward on the rod tip, the tag end (down side) of your new rod holder makes contact with the wall. Bomb proof.

Plastic dip stuff would dress it up!   ;D

Alright guys, since the photo bucket crash, all pictures of my creations are now unavailable...

I'm making this one thread as a compilation of my ideas, starting with the most recent pics that are still on my phone...

First off, my drill cover, made from an antifreeze gallon jug...

Hoping you all find these items helpful..

Thanks for looking...

The PVC cover is clever but your hand is still near the blades when using. I suggest one of the Cold Snap covers. You pop the cover off and on with your foot, and your hands are ALWAYS safely out of harms way.

Except that his cover is for a Mora auger and Cold Snap doesn't make one for a Mora.

Exactly, and Mora covers stink, and nobody makes an aftermarket that works...
