I have the chance to pick up a basically brand new MarCum LX-3TC for like $275. This would be my first flasher, and while I'm interested to get into fishing with one I'm perfectly content without one. I kinda feel like it would be crazy to pass it up at that price though. I know there are fancier and better flashers out there, but I've never been looking to drop that kind of cash regardless.

never know. I got on brand new lx3tc for 240 last year and it lasted a few trips and the motor went out.

yeah they fixed it but they have issues with the motors and some guys have had to send them in for repairs yearly.my Marcum vx1 did the same thing.i hear the older marcums are bulletproof but the newer ones go thru motors.275 will get you a new vexilar genz pack that will last a very long time.not dogging Marcum but I didn't have good luck with them.

Buy a flasher period.  Fish USA has some sales on right now.  Buying a flasher made me go from getting ready to sell all my gear and quit, to ice fishing being one of my favorite outdoor activities.

I haven't been able to find a new one for that around me. They all seem to be closer to $375

Many others before you have said basically the same thing...."I don't need a flasher, I can do without one."  Then they get one and can't live without it.  Regardless of what you get, and this is a pretty decent deal to jump at, it is better than nothing.

Yeah, that's basically where I'm at with it. I've done fine without, but it's pretty clear that not too many folks give em up even if they switch units/brands. I'ma pick it up tomorrow!

It's a good price on a good machine. Fact is, once you get a flasher, you won't know why it took you so long. yes you will catch fish. yes it will let you know if there are even fish to catch and where in the water column they are. yes it will help identify structures. But the thing is, it's kinda fun to mess around with too.

You'll be glad you made the investment. Especially since you're already comfortable/successful without one. The flasher will help you eliminate unproductive water - flasher shows fish and they're not active. That tells you to move on to find ACTIVE fish. You already know gow to catch them once you're on them.
