Local ponds 1/2 inch, no open water on most. Larger reservoirs, open water. Can't believe Its happening this early, in NW ohio.
Keep my fingers crossed it stays. Three years ago it started like this and then was 60 deg in January.
May ol man winter blow a cool breeze up your shorts!

4-5 inches up in northern MN. Upper Red Lake has about 5"s on it so its ready for me to go chase some walleyes. Bemidji area 4-5"s right over to Duluth and Ely close to the same.. Big lakes still aren't totally frozen in the metro area but I am going to go check a few smaller ones tomorrow morning.. I will try to report back in the evening.. Headed up nort on Monday early AM!

Was out yesterday on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska.  I found 12 to 14 inches of ice in most places.  Caught a few Rainbows on jigs.  Not sure how much the fish were moving around but I expect they would still be pretty active.

Some small shallow ponds are safe to fish in N. Central MA. but we will probably be loosing it all next week. Last year we fished more times in Dec. than any other year I can remember. And it looks like this year may top that. ;D

2-3 inches in the Twin Cities Metro Area, Minnesota. Went out on a lake today but had no luck in the hour we were out there.. It is spooky when you are walking around by a hole and the water is bobbing up and down in the hole though! Should be some good solid ice in the cities by Turkey Day. Headin north in 9 hours!

Barron County, NW Wisconsin.  The Packers were whooped today but not all is lost.  4-6 inches on most lakes, excluding the larger bodies of water.  Got out on Poskin Lake for a short time and pulled up a beautiful large mouth, about 4 pounds.  Gave him a kiss and let him swim.  Couldn't locate the panfish, couple of small crappies is all.  Let the games begin!

Basically every lake in Saskatchewan has enough ice to fish now.  Some main lake basins aren't frozen solid yet, but bays and coulees are good.

Anyone out there form the lower 48?  Namely southern NY Westchester, Putnam area?  This is the earliest I remember safe ice in a long time.  Fished behind King Lumber on Muscoot 1st weekend in Jan. Had constant action with bass, pickeral and crappies.  The guys jigging were taken mostly blue gills.  Fished it a week later couldn't catch a cold.  Anybody got any reports? - I hear their getting some trout on Titicus, White Pond is slow as usual, Boyds?, Some fish at Diverting and I hear a few walleyes being taken at Sodom.

We were on the ice on December 6th in northern Indiana.  From what I've been told that is very rare.

Since I can't find a channel to make a post (only mods and the admin can start such?) I figure here is good enough. I am wondering if any of you here are familiar with whitefish, aka ciscos? Well If any of you are familiar to those fish and know the best way to catch them, I sure would appreciate such knowledge.

I've been fishing on the Fox River in Green Bay here and been getting some decent walleyes. Four and five pounders. But they are inedible. They taste metallic as if a dog pissed on it. But anyways you can get some big walleyes in the Fox River here. Trophies. Though they suck to eat...

Well I was out with my brother and he caught a nice-sized whitefish on the jig. I was out checking tip-ups and when back... what the hell is that?! LOL, a cisco.

My bro ate it and said it was tasty. I looked at the advisory against eating whitefish from the Fox or any waters of Wisconsin and found that they are with a few fish species that you can gobble right up without worry of PCBs and other BS contaminants. The walleyes that come in to feed in the Fox from Lake Michigan are OK. The ones that hang around there taste like crap. You can tell by the colors. The bad ones have an actual darker tint to them than the tasty walleyes which come in from the bay.

Well anyways, I was wondering if any of you are familiar with whitefish and the best way to catch them?

Getting to be that time to watch the ice plunge south again. Looks like its started making ice instead of losing a big chunk in sept at the pole and snow is showing up in canada and alaska. Shout out on this thread when you get ice in your area.
