When I go out to the lake for the day there always seems to be an hour or two where nothing is happening and bordom starts to set in. I tend to eat everything I brought with and then I don't want to move. Looking for other ideas.

Fishing, slow?   I do not understand.  The action is always red hot with me.  Ha
It is half the reason (slowness that is) that I bring the dogs, they are great time passers.
When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

if things quiet down for a little while, i use this time to freshen up some rigs, clean and organize the tackle box, think about moving the shanty, some of the better days catching fish, tidying up the shanty and whatever you can do until that next BIG ONE hits!!! not much else unless you decide to pack up and go. (not a good thing) grump >:(

Organize tackle, walk over and talk with other people out on the ice. I don't think there are another group of people as hospitable as ice fisherpeople. PC hey? Used to have a few but that got old. Man it's nice to come home after a day on the water and actually get things done. It's easier to get time to go from the warden because of it.

Wrestling.  Usually, someone in our group has their kids with them.  Anywhere from a couple to a half dozen with us.  We have one big wrestling match, usually until someone cries.  Sometimes thats me.

Reach for a cold one, seems if you are slightly handycapped or not paying attention things start happening.straighten out the tackle box , hall some stuff I'm not using to the truck , or just sit down and try to relax, seems to spark some action.

Drink some coffee, check the minnows on the tipups.Throw snowballs at buddies tipups try to spring the flag.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an  well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, A fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming \"WOO HOO, what a ride!

Slow time is social time for me...I walk around, chat with the closest fishermen, compare notes on what's been working or not working.... have a cigar.  Decide if it's worth it to punch some new holes...get ready for the bite to start back up.

If your goal is to catch fish, more fish, and/or bigger fish each time you go out (to catch as many fish as possible), then Bigredonice, FishDeepCreek, Terrygonefishing, Crappieloo, Acsacmboy and anyone else that said to move have the right answer.  If you're fishing in a boat and have the entire lake to fish, do you stay in one spot all day when the fish don't bite or do you move?  What's the difference on the ice?  Be mobile and catch more fish.

If your goal is to have a good time and catch a few fish while doing it, then all the answers are good ones.  About the only thing that I will do when fishing is slow would be to maybe rig a couple rods or set my lantern up for the night bite...then I move.  It's all about catching and finding fish.  I might eat and move at the same time, cut holes between bites, but often my lunch stays in my sled until the ride home.

Usually I move, but if I am fortunate enough to have my crazy buddy Brad along (everyone has one of these guys for a friend), he will provide plenty of entertainment in the form of his famous minnow dance, or his biting off  the heads of panfish(perch are his favorite). Bluegill are kind of tough for him but I bust a gut every time seeing the struggle ;D

Oh there are so many things that can be done.  Usually chip the ice from the holes, check the tip-ups, drill more holes and jig a bit, eat, drink, sip soup, etc.  Of course, I do have that crazy friend as well and he has perfected the Mexican Ice Fish Hole dance as well as lay down and scream into the hole(doesn't make the flag go up, but it's fun to watch).  If there are a ton of people on the ice, just for kicks and giggles, run as fast as you can to the furthest tip-up, hover over the hole and pretend you're bringing in the big one.  Gets everyone's attention and kills a few minutes.  Also, if there are chunks of ice laying around or hard snow, we grab our ladels and try a nice fun game of LaCross.  It's not too easy to fling ice/snow from the bent part.  And if it's REAL slow, we'll bring out the camera and check out the bottom structures around the lake.  No matter if we catch fish or not, it's still a blast being out on the hard water.
Nothing changes, when nothing changes.
