Anyone lose anything this year?
« on: Mar 03, 2013, 03:21 PM »
Seems every year I lose some dang thing. This year crossing a lake on the ATV my chisel fell off. I looked for about a half hour and finally gave up. The good thing is I had made it. The bad thing is I now get to make another.

Anyone else lose anything this season?

I also lost a scoop, only it was the first and only trip after I bought it.  If anyone found a scoop on Harris bay in lake George, you can have it lol.

Those holes in the ice are magnets.  This year includes sunglasses (twice), and a nut off the end of my Jawjacker (they replaced it free).

What will you make it out of?

I have not had time to think about it yet. The one I had was made out of Leaf spring material.

I was contemplating making one out of the blade from road grader, I have heard they are a very good material to work with. I have time to think about it.

I try to lose my jigging rod. I got home from fishing and could find it anywhere. Went back the next day and there it was frozen to the ice.  Im more careful when i pick up my gear at the end of the day now.

Only about 3 short weeks of semi-safe ice.

Nasty case of bronchitis completely over lapped  those 3 weeks.

I can truly say, I lost the whole season.     :'(

I lost a giant pike when my drag froze up.   :'(
It ripped the rod out of my hands which then flew through the air towards the hole!!!
The tip went down the hole and somehow the reel caught on the snow cone around the hole long enough for me to grab it.
I was unable to pull the rod out of the hole because of the pike on the other end.   :o
Eventually he straightened the two #4 trebles on my quick strike rig and escaped capture.   :'(

Here's an interesting one, my extendable ice scoop (the kind that has the button with three positions) went missing from my gear. In it's place was another extendable ice scoop (the twist to extend) that's stuck and won't extend.
Now here's where it gets interesting; I've gone thru all my fishing partners gear and none of them have it. In fact one of them had the exact thing happen to theirs, except he got one that is missing the top handle.
The only thing we can figure out is while we where in the bait shop someone switched them in the back of our trucks.
Thankfully they didn't take/switch anything else.

My dad years ago accidentally kicked a gaf down the hole. A few weeks later hes out fishing again drops his jig to the bottom bam pulls up his gaf. Whats the chance of that. All he does to get his spot is line up with to shore points.

A spud bar. drilled a hole around some trees and was only marking 3 feet deep. Thinking my flasher had taken a crap  i grabbed the spud and checked, in doing so found i had drilled right on top of a rather large log and i poking around managed to drop it down the hole. Note to self, always take the extra second to loop the rope around my wrist lol.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

Pair of glasses that I found at early season which I just lost saturday!!  brain cells but whose counting, and a quickstrike rig with blades to a heavier fish( I HATE losing big fish, who dont tho!!)  Bet ya never seen a guy yell F:/k and toss a almost brand new tip up..  Or the giant bluegill I had on with my brand new straight line setup, up to the hole and BAM hits the ice and wiggles off bc I couldnt reel fast enough like with a spinning reel, had that not been a 2-3day old rod id of sunk it, as that reel has cost me a few nice fish. Also got sick of bouncin fish off edge of the 6" hole I got an 8" power auger...    ive lost a small piece of sanity also as u might see   LOL

And probly 700-800 bucks on new gear, oh that dont count the new shanty and frabill suit, theres $500 more    lmao!!
Keep those hooks sharp, or watch em swim away!

I hope that after I die my wife doesn't sell my toys for the same price I told her I bought them for

Lost me a metal ladle down the hole while a buddy was suppose to be watching my gear. Had it propping up the floor door in the shanty. Wind caught the shanty and rattled it loose and it found its way to the nearest hole.

Lost power to the screen on my old Aqua View and an mp3 player. Camera was just old (and heavy), I'd brought the player to listen to the football game. Packed it (I know I did) and never saw it again.......... I did dream last night of finding it; gotta go look.
