Who is still fishing?
« on: Mar 17, 2010, 09:04 AM »
I was catching some perch yesterday, we have about 18" of ice left on some of the big lakes about 9" of good ice and the top 9" not so good. I figure at least a few more days of ice fishing left with this kind of weather, going up to 65° today for a high. I'll be sitting on the ice in shorts and a tee shirt catching perch. The shallow bays I would normally try for crappie are to spooky looking for me, but the main lake basin ice is still ok to walk out, if you can find a good place to get on, off the south shore with shade. But don't go alone, and I have rope, a life jacket and a floatable sled. There were still 4 wheelers running around on the lake yesterday, but if this summer type weather keeps up it won't last much longer.

Still got about 3 feet of good ice here in Northern Manitoba.  Guys are still driving trucks on both the lakes and rivers.  Having a hard time finding the fish though.

A good friend of mine, will be ice-fishing for Splake and Lake Trout on Lake Manitou, in the North Bay Ontario area this coming Friday March 19th.  Apparently the ice conditions are ok.  They were having trouble locating live shiner minnows.

If all goes according to plans I'll be ice fishing here in Saskatchewan until the end of march and then hopefully hit up Manitoba first weekend of april if the ice is still good. The fish are really starting to bite now.

We still have a few inches of ice left here. The ice roads and crossings are still rated for 100,000 pounds or better.    ;D

We're done in central Pa. 4 days of rain and a week of 65 degree weather killed the ice.

There is still ice on the mountain lakes but not for long.  I've been more occupied with fly fishing.

I fished on 7" on the lower ponds last Saturday but had to use my boat to get across the open water for 10'. We went up to the mountains on Sunday for trout and the lake had 12" of good ice. We plan to go to a higher lake on Sunday. There is a cold front moving into Colorado with temperatures down to the single digits Friday night and up to 2' of snow. We have a mile hike into the lake we want to fish, we may need to take the snow shoes. Hope to catch some stocker trout and maybe a bigger carry over from last year. Either way we always have fun getting out. stay cool, afishingfool

I went out last evening, a small bay on the north end of a big lake. I was able to get on ok, prodding with a spud bar I got close to the middle of the bay when the spud bar went through, you never saw someone put it in reverse so quick, I went back about 15 yards on good ice and fished, caught some small perch. I probably won't go back on that bay. I know the north bays go first but thought I would give it a last try. The end is near :(

I wear braces, so if I can't at least use the ATV I'm done.  My last trip out was the 3rd of March.  I had to start my spring doctor rounds the next week.  Colonoscopy (had someone looking up my hole instead of me looking down one. :o

I went for a look after church last Sunday, landings looked pretty sad.  If I could have hoofed it I may have tried some of the smaller woods lakes, but that's the way of it.

Going nuts until they open now.  BUT I STARTED ON NEXT YEARS SHACK!  Now all I got to do is live so long.
