Mono vs steel
« on: Aug 26, 2015, 08:55 PM »
I use a steel leader quick strike rig when I fish for pike then simply remove the top hook from the rig and leave the steel leader when I fish for bass.  I was thinking of switching to a mono or Fluor leader when I fish for bass.  Anyone have experience with either and do you think it would make any difference for bass?

You don't need a steel leader for bass. Leave your quick-strike rigs intact for pike, and just put your hook of choice on for bass. No leader.

i found bass and pike take the same baits, so i always use steel leaders except pan fishing. i make my own and use a black marker to stain the power pro 30# test to match my black leaders i make. try horney toads! watermellon red by zoom. fish em high or low or bump bottom.

I ditched the steel leaders many years ago.i use 20 or 25 pound big game mono and haven't had a pike/bass break me off in 4 years.plus i  believe I get more flags without a steel leader.jmo
