Hali sakkula
« on: Dec 15, 2007, 05:25 PM »
I have never used a Hali and picked a few up today.
The chains seem too weak and the little black clip that connects the lure body to the chain doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy either.
One chain broke at the clip just taking the lure out of the package.
Has anyone had problems with this set-up?

Only on about a 4lb laker looking at me have I had the chain break , and that was after catching many perch on it , and actually the hook broke and not the chain . Use a little care taking them out of that packaging , I would return it or even use that one with mono instead of the chain Ive used mine like that for walleyes with success .
I spent all my money on fishin, huntin, and beer  , everything else was just a waste!

the chains are fine, the hooks are not all that stonge, but I guess thats why they sell replacement chains and hooks...be carfull to not use pliers to remove the hook it possible, this will quickly kill those tiny hooks

all in all, great bait

I've been using the hali for a few years. I don't care if I ever buy another jig. I love it because of it's versatility. I keep the lil chain hook on. Make sure you have extra's in your box. I also have broken one on a huge laker... But that occasion is extremely rare. I keep the chain hook on, and tie a dropper hook off the eye the chain hooks to. Put a minnow on the top hook. couple grubs on the bottom. NIce lively minnow will bounce those grubs off the bottom. It's deadly man. If ne one has other variations lets get 'em on here. Help this dude and each other.

I love the jig. Yes, they are pretty fragile, but they hold up just fine for perch and even medium sized gamefish. I've caught 23 inch Walleye on them without any problem, but I have also broken hooks. Just be aware of what you have on the end of your line, and reel 'em in.

I agree, the hali is the go to hook when the perch are sniffing, I have also had a few hooks break on me. They are very sharp and most likely brittle i figure. The only time I break em' is pinching the barb with pliers

this is one of my go to lures, but again not a real strong hook. i caught a nice bass yesterday on it and i had to bend the hook back.

I've broken the hooks and the chains, but you can't beat the lure. be careful with the chain when its really cold. it kinks and freezes and if you try and straighten it it breaks.
northland tackle makes a dropper hook for its spoons that you might also be able to use. here's the link;

The lures are great. I tend to change the hook out for something stronger. Those ones that come with them arent very strong and will bend and break quickly.

I buy the replacement chains that allow you to use your own hooks.  I have been using red hooks and the last time out I caught so many perch that the red color wore off.   good luck guys  ;D

I feel the chain has better action than monofilament, so I don't change it out.

I don't take the chain off unless the hook breaks then I tie 2 lb on and watching on the camera I think the action is almost as good. I do think the gold chain does help to attract the perch.
