Fishing camera vs sonar
« on: Nov 30, 2014, 03:23 PM »
Hello,

I wondering how a fishing camera compares to using a sonar when fishing in shallow lakes? What you you recommend?

pretty colors mean nothing to me, I like seeing whats at my bait or swimming by. learn a lot from a camera about their reactions and a whole lot more entertaining. especially watching a big pike chewing on your camera

I have both and I find in use mine in different situations.

I like to punch a hole and drop the camera, check drop offs, cover, etc.

I like my sonar at 200' fishing for lakers.

Good fishin'!

One for depth etc. and the other for education and entertainment. Both have a place for different reasons.

Agreed with what has already been said. Sonar is good for the depth where the camera can not see, also shows where in the water column the fish might be hanging out.

The camera on the other hand is by far one of the best piece of equipment for me. Beside the fact that it is like playing the best video game out there because you actually get to catch the fish that you see on TV, it is also enables you to watch how the fish are responding to your jigging or presentation. You could spend your whole day out there not giving the fish what they want to see, but with the camera you quickly find out what gets them going for your rig or what gets them leaving it alone.

And the best things of all is the amplified anticipation when you see a beast appear from the abyss and hone in on your bait! Ah Jesus, now I am all excited and it is only Monday!!!! Have to wait all week to get out again.

If I could only choose 1 it would be sonar hands down.

I only use a camera.  You can learn so much more from a camera than a sonar
Tight lines and big fish

Whats better a starter or an alternator? Same question. They both do different things, I use them both in conjunction, they are seperate tools and both as valuable as the other. Sonar gets the edge in deep water but that doesn't make it more valuable just different. If you can afford them get both.
Hell, if I'd jumped on all the dames I'm supposed to have jumped on, I'd have had no time to go fishing.

Like I always say "Feed a man a fish and you feed him for a day " "Teach a man to fish, and he better take out a second mortgage on his home"!

Cameras are nice but useless in the dark or in dirty water.

I used to carry both, but after about 5 years of that, I found myself using the camera less and less and using my vexilar 100% of the time.   I don't even take the camera with me anymore.

Man with most toys wins ;D

But as for the differences.  As others have posted it all depends on what u intend to go after

Each unit has it's place.   But some of us like toys lol.

I remember back in the day. We only had hooks and worms.
