There is a great article on the MI DNR website about ice safety. It tells about two snowmobilers that went through on Lake Goegebic (West end of UP). One of the men owe their life to the quick thinking and action of several CO's that were nearby. They ended up using a snowmobile ramp and rope to get the guy out of the water...as his body was already going numb. He went to a hospital for hypothermia and was later released.
So remember to be safe on the ice. We are all eager to get out, but there is still a lot of iffy ice out there.
