Couple weeks ago, I watched a guy jump that sucker a dozen times, finally high-centered the 4 wheeler and a couple guys fishing down from me went over and helped him drag it off  ???

i'm not normally one to critisize...but why even try and do something that dumb and not only risk your life but risk loosing a 7000.00 wheeler. Follow the ridge to shore and cross there ::)

Not to mention the risk to lives of potential rescuers, the edge of that's a dangerous place to be...glad it didn't come to that RR, what came to mind for me was the combined weight of the wheeler/trailer/auger/grill/rider..what? 1000 pounds on bad ice. Hmmmmm...

I tried to calculate my  total wt. a while back. 700 polaris dry wt. 980+.  5Gal. fuel, tool boxes, auger, tipups, me, lunch all total 1300 lbs minimum. Divide by two axles = 650 per axle-divide by two tires = 325 lbs per tire. Tire area: 10 x 8 = 80 sq. inches 4 psi static. Add bumping across pressure ridge, tripple that. 12 pounds on one square inch.  A man stepping with one foot: 5+ psi.  Add a trailer with maybe 40 pounds tongue wt to the back axle. Add one side tire  bouncing down first with disportionate wt distribution, a lot could triger a break through. Another variable, the tires are high lug which are made to penetrate 1" squares so not like a flat slick tire bearing an even load.  I don't know where this is going, but it does note in the drivers manual about driving on unsafe surfaces such as ice.
On that note, mild weather lately is sure to make the ice softer sooner.

Yeah! What WYIfish said!  ;D (Wow.)  ;D I;ve  been through 3 times, twice in the New Fork River (knee-waist deep, more cold and annoying than anything) and once on the four wheeler last year in only 30 inches water, but I know this, it happens in a heartbeat and it'll never happen again. :woot: :%$#!: :callcops: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
