Catfish in Boysen
« on: Jan 20, 2008, 09:41 PM »
I had the most amazing weekend at boysen, I will post pictures after I figure out this photo bucket stuff.  But I ended up catching 22 catfish in a day and a half.  After bringing a the catfish home and weighting them it was really surprising.  The weights varied from 8lbs to 18 lbs.  The amazing thing was I released a few much bigger catfish that I think were 20-22 lbs.  I think one of the bigger ones is the picture that I will post shortly.  But I am wondering if any else has stumbled on a hole like this at boysen. I caught catfish before but it has been a one on one basis...nothing like this....

Right on man..lets see some pics..Sounds to me like you got into a good school of them. Probably shouldn't even bother asking but in what vicinity were you in? There thats  a pretty broad way of putting it ;)

Nice, very nice fish indeed. Better keep that hole a secret, although any one who knows the lake can see where you were.

I had a similar experience about 8 years ago. caught about 12 in one day and have only caught 2 more since that time. None were over 6 lbs though. They are really starting to get some monsters in there now.

I had a pretty similar day like that last year at the tournament.  Caught most of them jigging also. One I caught the day before the tournament was over 20 lbs easy. Hopefully you can get in to those the end of this week.

Great cat's man,
It looks like you and the little one had a great time. Did the little one get to pull any of them through the ice?
I've had pretty good luck with cat's in the spring, but I've only caught one through the ice. I've heard that if you can find them you will have days like you had, but I've never been able to find them under the ice. Don't suppose you are gonna let us know where you got into them at?

Rumdrinker, those are some beautiful fish. Biggest I've ever caught was 32" long and 14 lbs out of the Big Horn River. I always hoped to get one over 20 lbs and have it mounted.

Amazing fish.

I was at Boysen this a group of 10, and the fishing was awful, as bad as the drought years when the reservoir was really low.  We were at Tough Creek and tried a variety of depths, and landed 2 perch, a few tiny walleye, and 2 big trout.  It was even dead at the magic hour around dusk.

When I fished Tough Creek around Christmas we did really well, and we had high expectations--Guess that's fishing....
