Any luck this weekend????
« on: Feb 06, 2006, 09:39 AM »
I missed probably a great weekend of fishing...The weather seemed like it was good for some quality ice.  Hopefully this coming weekend will be cooperative as well!!  No plans or honey do's!!  ;D
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!!

Take it easy!!

Heres an average sized gill that filled my bucket.  Caught a 9 1/2 incher the day before wish I woulda had the camera along then.  I caught that bull on a fathead :-X

Here is one of the "Brushy" gills. When we got on "first ice" we got some bigger gills...but forgot a camera.

CrappieBuster what would you say is your favorite lure or rig to use to catch the crappies on?  I have been using just small jig heads myself.  I have a waxie on in one hole and use a small minnow in the other hole.  Just curious as what seems to be working for you.

The key word to fishing any species in the winter I think is small.  I start off with a small Bro Bug jig for horizontal presentation or a Forage Minnow jig or a Frostee jig for vertical presentation.  Small lively fatheads that are constantly aerated are also another key factor,I hook them just behind the dorsal fin... If the bite is tuff I use some plump lively waxies with a genz bug or small "forage matched" tear drop.  All pannie tackle I use is 3-4 lb line ultralight action rods with perfectly trimmed ice buster bobber or a panfish popper spring bobber setup.  If the fish dont respond well on the sonar come up look at it and go back down to the bottom get out the tackle box they will bite on sumpthin!
