Ok here we go again with our next Adventure up to Flaming Gorge can not wait we will head out in a few weeks.
-
My wife just said “oh boy” lol. Looks like the ice is starting to get better down stream. I have to attend the Pinewood Derby with my boy, get a house payment and then it will be game on for the Gorge. Love catching those Burbot and the Lakers aren’t so bad either. Might stay a full week again as well. Stayed nine days last year and had the time of my life. See you soon, ice permitting.
-
I'd be in for sure. That is only a 2 hour drive instead of the 9 we just did lol. This time I'd actually fish with you guys.

How does that work, I want to get a house payment from a pinewood derby? LOL

For sure, way easier drive. You definately need to fish with us. We will be camping on the ice this trip. Getting there friday morn and having rods in the water till we pack up sunday. Who knows maybe we'll get pok3 to stop in. I have been getting some intel from some peeps and putting some maps together. Its looking like we'll be upstream and I say we fish the Blacks fork this year in the place prospector got his 1st Koke thru the ice, fishon1 lost his big laker and I got those 2-29in burbs. Ill get the maps out soon. Here's some pics to jog the memories

It's going to come up quick
-
Dang Matt! You sure know how to make a work day seem like forever. Those pictures make a guy want to go fishing! :icefish:
Are we heading upstream on machines or are trailers a possibility? Not sure if we would have 12” of ice, but if we did my wheel house might make an appearance. Either way, the all new Otter Resort should be move in ready by then. BTW, I would rather go to work to make a living even if a guy could do it watching Pinewood Derbies.
-
Matt,
Would love to join all y'all if it don't coincide with my return to Cascade. And for damn sure, I will NOT be spending the night on the ice. The motels in Green River are much more to my liking. ;D
-
Hey Bob you are welcome to come fish with our group anytime and we plan on going the Feb 2-4 coming home on the 4 of February
-

REALLY, you dont say. Wouldnt know how that feels :roflmao: :roflmao:

For sure Bob, I'll send you over the maps and you can look them over/compare them on google maps while your on the computer having coffee. Get a good idea where we'll be at. Only bad thing is no snowmobiles here. So far. My friend was there this weekend at its holding at 7-8in of ice and absolutely no snow. Just rock and dirt to the edge of the ice. We'll have atleast 2 wheelers to move gear/people around and if your fishing multiple days you can leave your gear on the ice with us and head into town for a room at night. Its no prob

Let me know the dates you are thinking of going Joe. I think, with the lack of snow so far, I might just tow up the trailer and stay a couple extra days either prior or after everybody comes up. If the weather takes a 180, I'll just camp on the ice with the rest of those crazy *****s.
SLAP
-
I am thinking the 1st through the 6th or 7th.
-
Ok so talking with Matt last night I am going to bring the trailer as long as the weather is good. So Joe there will be room for you and Ryan in it.

Thanks for that. I am sure that we will take you up on the offer, but we will insist on helping out with fuel/ propane. Very generous of you! Thanks again.
-
Anything for Joe
-
Hmmm let me see, sleep on the ice or let FO1 twist my arm with the bunkhouse condo on wheels. Condo it is as long as the weather cooperates. We'll tow tandem and bring 2 wheelers. Should be good enough to move some gear around. I believe slap is bringing his trailer also
-
does anyone know how much snow was dropped around the confluence area?
-
does anyone know how much snow was dropped around the confluence area?
According to the NOAA website today, Buckboard got 7 inches of snow so I would imagine the confluence area received similar amounts.
-
Thanks Glen, guess we'll see how it looks after next weekend and decide wether we're sleeping on the ice or in a trailer. 7in don't sound to bad and after it gets blown on a bit and settles it will only be a coupe inches
-
I am thinking the 1st through the 6th or 7th.
OK the more I talk around here it sounds like we will be there for a minimum of the 1st - 4th or 31st - 3rd. We will try and nail down a solid plan this week. It seems like a nice cold snap has finally arrived so hopefully it holds and gives us mucho ice thickness-O.
-
What's up guys. I knew you had this planned so I figured I would head over and see how the planning process was going and maybe help.
I didn't see it mentioned so I will mention it. The "Burnot Classic" is all day and night on February 3rd. With the limited ice it will be very busy. Hopefully you guys have all
Your fish caught by then.
Also, I got the pics of your guys' tentative plans from muskyon and want to add my 2 cents. #1 - Lost Dog road (CR12) is notorious for drifting in. I've already heard reports of 4wd only with the small amount of snow we got. It likes to drift up all over that road. So any more snow and it may be impassable. Same goes for the other lightly used two tracks you guys plan on using across the blacksfork arm. Hard to tell what will happen with those if we get any more snow or lots of wind.
If I were to recommend anywhere it would be to camp on "confluence road" or "County road 11" . It's highly traveled, never drifts in, and is very easy to navigate. You can access halfway hollow and all the areas you guys have wanted to fish from that road. If you have any bigger campers I would stay up there.
I may see you guys out there. Cheers!

The 'Burbot' Classic for 2018 is January 26, 27, 28. In 2017 it was February 2 - 4.
-
False. The burbot BASH is those dates. The classic is 3rd- morning of the 4th.

Apologies; I never heard about the 'Classic' before. All I knew about burbot fishing at the Gorge was the Bash.
I stand corrected.
And Matt, with that going on, I think I'll pass on going. I'm not a big fan of combat fishing.
-
Didn't mean to scare you off bob! Hahahaha. It looks like that may be the day you'll be coming home anyways. Just to be prepared for other people looking for camping spots and staring to stake their claim to areas.
-
Thanks pok for the info. And Bob it's not that bad for 🎏 up there at that time there is plenty of space
-
Hey Bob there's plenty of ice up there. It don't get that shoulder to shoulder at all. It's only a one day/night tourney for the classic. Thanks for the info Trent. We've got a few things going on between now and the 2nd so nothing is set in stone other than we'll be up fishing that weekend. Staying in the trailer or on the ice is the question. More to come
-
It was 4 degrees this morning in Green River, and it just put a smile on my face when I checked.
-
Only thing better than single digits is negative

The ice is just a couple of inches thick at Buckboard, make your plans accordingly.
Burbot committee WYIfish Dave Freeman
I am checking currant creek to see if it iced over since last week when it was open water on the point. Bank fishing for rainbows and pups has been killer.
-
Thanks for the Intel Dave, our group is going to stay up stream on the blacks fork where the ice is a bit thicker. Don't think we'll make the classic this year. Hopefully next year the ice gods will give us the ice we want in big bend and we'll be much closer to buckboard.
-
No Damon or Geezer this trip? I will be there on the first. Going to be another great trip! The fish will start biting really well on the evening of the first according to my crystal ball.
-
Ok, so we are not going to bring my 5th wheel because of the snow/ road conditions. You just never know about us Joe we seem to surprise you.
-
Haven't heard from Gale but Damon is in for Friday & Saturday then he has to get back Saturday night. I'll post up what we find in the morning up the there, I'm guessing we'll be back before 9pm.
-
Man I was just going to bring a toothbrush and a credit card! Now I guess I will have to get loaded for bear as usual. Lucky for me, I still haven’t unpacked my gear from the last trip at cascade. Thanks you guys for doing recon trip tomorrow. Drive safe and catch lots of fish!
-
I'll be there. Just hoping for snow to use the snowmobile since the ski wheeler needs a tuneup bad.
-
From the pics I've seen I think sleds will be fine. I'll let everyone know for sure tomorrow
-
Gosh I hate Construction for reasons like this I should be fishing not going to work damn government workers😁😁 good luck and be safe
-
Safe travels today you guys. Will be looking forward to some pictures and intell. Don't forget a lottery ticket, you just might win the permanent fishin job..
-
Gosh I hate Construction for reasons like this I should be fishing not going to work damn government workers😁😁 good luck and be safe
I know the feeling! Stuck in meetings all day today for government construction jobs!
From the pics I've seen I think sleds will be fine. I'll let everyone know for sure tomorrow
Should be fine for sleds they got 6-8" of snow the other day which should make it fine for sleds. It will cover up some bad ice though so be careful!
-
Going in lost dog will do for next weekend. 2-4in of snow on the ice, 5-10in at the most on the road. Caught lakers, bows & burbs today fishing 26-30fow. Burbot bashers were rolling in pretty thick when we were heading out, but still had plenty elbow room. Good luck this weekend bashing. Here are a few pics of the condition in the lost dog/blacks arm area, we had 10in of ice everywhere we drilled. People on sleds and bikes all over. Just watch the ridges
The drive in

Man I’d really like to make this trip but I’m committed elsewhere. I’d say that conditions look to be great for you, nice recon job. Hope to make the next one. Be safe out there and have fun !

Sorry to hear that Gale, for sure we've got plenty of trips still left in us. I did add a few more pics. Gotta love the jacker transport. Man that made it so easy to move. Wouldn't be pulling it like that behind a machine though. Walking no Prob
-
Well I think I've got about everything packed and ready to load. Got some bad news today that fishon1 is out. I'll gladly hook some up for you buddy  you will be missed on this trip but I think if we play our cards right we may get a few more trips in before we call it for the year. I was stoked to here my soon to be son inlaw is going to make it. Going to be a great experience for him camping on the ice. Good thing he's got a great group to show him how it's done. Just wish we would have had one in our early days, but we figured it out. Man we've came so far since we started making this trip. From sleeping in a chair in my qf3 to a legit comfy cot in the xl6000 Bigfoot or trailer. Hauling 100's of Lbs of gear by hand to pulling everything by sled or wheeler. Old eagle fish finder to the awesome LX7. Homemade jackers to actual jaw jackers. Cleaning out holes every 20 mins to the newest idea of not cleaning them out all night. More to come on that one. Good times. I better stop now or I'm not going to sleep tonight. Come on Friday :woot: :woot:
-
Sorry to hear about Fishonone! Take care of your family buddy. I also thought maybe I might get sidetracked with some business crap that needed tending to but was able to get it resolved a few minutes ago. Sitting on the ice will be so nice for me this week. Since I got back from Cascade, I have had to deal with some real idiots! I am officially loaded for bear and will head out tomorrow morning and meet up with Ryan at Ace hardware around noon. Slapthefish should have the fish located and my holes drilled by the time we hit the lake. I decided to bring my four wheeler instead of the snowmobile due to the temperatures down there.
I talked to Wyohunter this morning and he will head over tomorrow morning with a friend. He was the guy last year that was Fishing across the pressure ridge from our group. He said his season has been terrible near Cheyenne this year.
I sure hope that the ice holds out. My four wheeler doesn’t know how to swim as we found out at Henry’s.
Sure appreciate the reporting from your recon trip and local guys!

I am glad you was able to get you work order done so you could go 🎏 and there are some special people out there . Good luck Joe and drive safe and also don't let Matt cache all the fish

Trailers loaded, now for Friday morning to get here. For those traveling up tomorrow morning drive safe and the rest of us will see you Friday. For those coming later travel safe and we'll see you on the ice
Thanks Matt I sure wish I could be there but my father in-law is not doing to good. I sure will be thinking of you guys.
Good luck and hook them up.
Gotta do what you gotta do bro. We'll get some hooked up for you but you'll have to wait till I get service to see any pics. Oh ya I'll let joe catch a couple just smaller than mine. Lol

Thanks buddy. Wish you all the best with your father-in-law. I am heading out about four in the morning and should meet up with Ryan at noon and go from there. Sounds like we’ve got a lot of guys coming. WyoHunter is coming over from Cheyenne again with his friend and Glenwyo sounds like he will make an appearance as well. I told Trent to come down And see if we could help him out on his fishfinder that is not working. He said he will try.
-
Don’t make me break out the Photoshop!
Oh man you know I love the photoshop, yes it looks like we will have a good group. Liv2hunt will be joining us sometime friday as well. Just got off the phone with slapthefish and it sounds like the whole 1st group has made it out of town. Man this day is going to drag, good thing theres not decent phone service up there so I dont have to sit here at work and drool over fish pics this trip :-\
-
You guys not doing the https://www.burbotclassic.com/
?
Wish I could make it!
-
Regrettably we will not be doing the classic. If theres was good ice in south buckboard/big bend we would be in for sure. The proximity to that location is alot closer than being all the way down lost dog. Just too far to travel for our group. Much rather spend that time fishing. Maybe next year we will get better ice and can enter the classic. Its been a few years since any of our group has entered any burbot tourneys.
-
Good luck you guys and be safe out there and cache all the fish
-
Thanks for another great trip fellas! Go Eagles!
-
Great times for sure, it was great having some cold ones and shooting the bs with everyone. I'll get some pics up soon

Looks like a lot of fun, wish I could have been there, but ended up that it was good I was around... In-laws vehicle died on them and left them stranded, so I had to go to the rescue on top of the wedding reception my wife was putting together for my cousin... Would have loved to have been fishing, but sometimes it's good to be where you need to be... Hopefully next time I can make it... Later J
-
Nicefish Joe it's to bad I had to miss the trip but my father in-law isn't doing good. I am not sure if I should put my ice gear away or what to think of this damn weather.
-
Joe it was nice to meet you and Ryan! Friday night fishing was a blast, good times and lots of laughs. Good group of guys, I got to put a lot of faces with user names on here. Wind was a little rough, but I really had an enjoyable time. Thanks to Matt and his hospitality as usual. Matt(Musky) is probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Always makes you feel welcome, and an all around good time to hang out with. Thanks to all. Hope to have a few more fun trips in the future.
-
Not certain fish Joe it's to bad I had to miss the trip but my father in-law isn't doing good. I am not sure if I should put my ice gear away or what to think of this damn weather.
The trip wasn’t the same without you buddy! God speed to you and the family.

Was great to see you again. Keep coming to these trips so that this old man can keep names and faces straight. Was great to see all of the regular guys as always! I am stealing Luke’s rod holder idea. Definitely need to get Tyson as a regular, he is quite a good cook!
-
Rod holder? Did I miss out on someone's new set-up?
-
Hey Damon luke had some really tall pole holders he made that would have impressed gale for sure, not much bending over to hook those fish. Sorry it took so long to get these up but here it goes. The 2 days 2 nights of fishing turned out to be very good as there wasnt a day or night that we weren't getting into something. No big lakers that i seen but plenty of pups and some burbs up to 30" These are a few of my son inlaws pics, 1st his 1st fish thru an ice hole was a pup

Those were all the fish pics I came home with as I have plenty of pup and burb pics but I did get some great scenery shots. Starting with the 1st day out day fishing after we got camp set up

Catching a quick nap before the night time fishing started, my son inlaw was wore out sitting in that wind hooking pups enjoying a few cold ones

Dinner done MMM burritos on the buddy
(https://i.imgur.com/QzIaLBMl.jpg)
2nd day chilling in the tent around camp out of the wind provided plenty of things to do resetting wind side ice anchors in all the tents. I'm really surprised we didnt loose any tents this trip as that wind had to have gusted to atleast 40-50mph at one point
(https://i.imgur.com/MGSCETfl.jpg)
And of course more naps on saturday. LOL
(https://i.imgur.com/fGzg0POl.jpg)
The 2nd night provided us with a great moon, no wind and a nice fire night. Any one thats done the night fishing at the gorge for burbs knows how beautiful these night lights can be when you get your whole spread out

Some parting shots from on of the ridges above the Blacks arm looking down stream, that ice was going all weekend. I didnt have to clean one hoile out more than once and that was just after drilling it. Pretty sorry ice year. I hope everyone is safe out there finishing out this season. We seen many holes that opened up by sunday to the size of a wheeler that were not realyy there on friday. So be safe and check the ice as you go

Another great year at the gorge has come and gone, Thanks to all that came out to spend some time even if it was just to shhot the B.S. for just a few mins. Great to see everyone again @)
-
It looks like a great time but there was to many naps going on lol dam rookies 😂😂.
-
Wow! Amazing how fast that hole opened up against the shore. Thanks again Matt and all the fellow shanty members. A fun trip for sure.
-
Looks like everyone had a great time. Lots of fish and lots of fun. Cool way to break in the SIL looks like he'll remember most of it for a long time. Those edges where crazy how it pulled off. Thanks to all of you for sharing the pictures and reports.

I think I should have taken atleast one nap myself, but I made up for it when I got home ;D

That shore did open up quite a bit, wind is detrimental on ice for sure. Great times

It was a great time, The SIL is defionately broke into the ice scene and camping on the ice to boot. Sorry I didnt get to sending you some pics but I knew you would catch them on here
