In search of some early ice
« on: Nov 11, 2004, 08:50 AM »
Nothing more exciting than taking a drive up north in search of some early ice. Some pics I took on 2003's first ice. Should be doing it all over again very soon.

Trophy Hunter - we're going to get some cold nights in southern Manitoba for the next 3 (-10, -10 and -7°C).  With low day temps I'll bet the Assiniboine diversion channel should be frozen.  Good luck, but be careful!  Catch a big pike or three.

It would not surprise me if some are already fishing the diversion. I just came back from minnedosa lake and it is completely covered. The edges of the lake has a solid three inches of ice. I was to chicken to walk out to far. This weekend should be a safe bet for the diversion or any small lake Just be careful everyone. As much as I love the sport it is not worth your life.
Enjoy life now!!!! Get on the Hardwater before it melts away!!!

Man, that is some crazy looking first ice. I don't think that I'll be the first one out.  ;) I'm a monkey see, monkey do when it comes to ice. Getting freezing wet is on my #1 top list of not to do while ice fishing.  :P Stay on top!  ;D

I am jealous of you skinny guys that can go out on thinner ice. I need thicker than that! (215 lbs. :P)
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

IceFishingBear, I was about 240 lbs last year at this time and was fishing on 2.5 inches of ice, just don't go with all your gear and shelters.  This year I am down to about 195 lbs so as soon as I see a solid 2 inches I am on it.

LOL, nope.  ;D Ice might look spooky but I guarantee there was at minimum 3-4" of very sound ice where I am standing.
