Title: Little Atom Plastics
Post by: Coachkwj on Feb 01, 2014, 10:33 AM
Anyone tried Little Atom plastics? Just saw a youtube video and they look super soft and wiggly. Been using Custom Jigs & Spins and they work but these seem softer. Any thoughts?
Anyone have their own favorites?
Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the Little Atom stuff.  I generally use the Nuggies and Micro Nuggies depending on the attitude of the fish.  The Skimpies have their time and place I've found as well.

I have some nuggies, haven't done real well on them to be honest. Not nearly as well as the CJ&S plastics.

I tried the Little Atom nuggies but I went back back to Custom Jigs and Spins also.

Whats your favorite CJ&S bait?

I feel like it's all about confidence in what you are using.  I asked for a lot of help last year with the plastics front and started to get confidence in them at the end of the season.  Right now, I'm most confident in a black/glow spot tungsten jig with a blood red nuggie.  Seems like no matter what lake I"m on, I'm catching fish with it.

The CJ&S finesse tails are worked into the rotation quite often.  It all depends on the day I guess.

Whats your favorite CJ&S bait?

Ratso! (finesse plastic). More specifically #10 black for crappies and big gills. I use them on round jig heads from 1/100 up to 1/32 all on #10 vmc hooks.

Some other good colors are yellow chart, candy corn, and white.

I find myself fishing plastics alot more lately than ever.  I am a big fan of using the Little Atom micro nuggies.  Last weekend when I was catching fish regularly on them I started experimenting with other plastics.  I tried a ratso white and couldn't get more than one or two bites here and there.  I also tried Clam Jamei and Pollo and nothing.  My last attempt was a Northland Impulse mayfly and nothing.  Went back to the micro nuggie and it was on again.  I am sure alot of it has to do with confidence in what you like.  My best colors this year have been clear glitter with red tail and purple with bubblegum tail.  Just my .02.

Purple glitter CJ&S finesse tail on a 5mm custom silver Tungsten jig is killing big gills for me this year.
Even when the bite is slow.

I do real well on red micro nuggies. I use a razor blade and split the tail.

Has anyone else tried the whisker plastic, which is identical to the nuggie but with 2 tails instead of one? I picked up a few packs of them this year but didn't find that they were as productive as i would ike. I am definitely going to get some of the nuggies and maybe trim one of the whiskers off of one of these to see if that changes anything

I've been a long time user of Little Atom plastics.

Skimpies has been my favorite finesse plastic.

I've done well with the Duppies as well.  These really help to reduce unnecessary jig spinning.

don't over look other brands they might have something that will work for you. the micro plastics I recommend are the Maki plastics. can be ordered right from the Maki website or there is a few of the Maki's that are sold by Clam under the Maki/Clam partnership.

Maki plastics- Original Maki in motoroil or black is by far the #1 plastic I reach for, it's got 4 tails and a fairly good sized profile but seems to catch even negative fish. Micro Maki is used very rarely if I notice extremely finicky fish on the flasher investigating without biting, but again that's uncommon.

I find the Micro Nuggies and Maki Jamei to be effective.

I will say that the red Micro Nuggie is my go to for perch and pumpkinseeds.  At the end of the season, I've used 2 - 3 times as many of those as any other bait.

The scent that Little Atom uses is anise oil.  It's a helluva lot more pleasant than PowerBait!

How would confidence help get bites?  I'm missing something.

It’s how they are presented, just like any fishing with rubber worms in summer, sure if very aggressive they will hit anything. If finicky its the presentation that makes the lookers bite. Watch how they react and adjust your presentation

How would confidence help get bites?  I'm missing something.
Confidence comes with experience in the lure presentation and also the experience with the body of water or the targeted fish.

When one becomes very experience with a lure and knows the subtle motions to make the lure work to trigger fish bites, that builds upon that confidence.  Repeat that success over many times and it becomes so natural to perform.  Naturally when a person has confidence, they're more attentive and more responsive to their environment.  It becomes their element in which they excel.
