Can the Hawg Trough be used for the tourney?
« on: Dec 19, 2017, 05:44 PM »
Just wondering if this could be used instead of a tape measure?

I have been using this for a couple years now, and in my experience it is much easier to use and there is no subjectivity. You don’t have to try to line up the end of the tape measure with the “nose” of the fish. You just put the fish in the Trough, push the head of the fish all the way to the end of it and see where the tail reaches on the scale.

Where's the FISH?!

Better than using a folded card to check for a 1st down on an NFL field by the Head Judge. LOL

On the other hand ~ The rules are set in stone for the Tourney.    ;)2

Good luck.

LMBO! Exactly gator!!!!  ;D  I was looking for a good analogy, but couldn’t think of one.

But seriously, I am a bit surprised we aren’t taking advantage of the latest ice fishing “technology”. This is a big improvement over the old yellow tape measure IMHO!

I know rules are rules. Was just hoping maybe this would be taken into consideration for the future!  ;)

Without mentioning brand names...

The "yellow" tape is more of a standard for tapes these days..(sometimes free, at Harbor Freight, with coupon)

I think "that rule" is more an attempt at standardization, than exclusivity of possibly more efficient but not widely available means... For those that don't have a yellow tape, if you can read this you are civilized enough to find one, within a mile of, or at the same place, you bought the device you're reading this on..

It should also have a wedge fence, to keep their trap shut, for proper measurements.. Some states require a "mouth closed" measurement..

Well, I wasn;t thinking making it mandatory, just thought maybe some of us that had them and use them all the time might be able to use them in the tourney. Since that is what they are intended for. And I didn't think in this day and age it would be hard to find them. Berkley and other companies make a similar product.

But just throwing it out there. Certainly do not want to step on any toes or overstep my bounds! Just a friendly suggestion.  ;)

No you have to use the yellow push/pull tape measure.

It shows up better in the pictures. Against black ice, snow or even at night.

It's  relatively inexpensive.

It's available almost everywhere.
