Title: suckers for bait
Post by: Mogi on Dec 13, 2013, 08:08 AM: Hey all. I kept a a couple of suckers from my last outing to use for pike bait. What is the best way to use them. Whole? Heads? Cut up pieces? All of the above? Thanks in advance.

Post by: jigging the dream on Dec 13, 2013, 08:17 PM: I rig em just like I would a smelt. Quickstrike rig, two trebles on a steel leader, hook one in the head and one near the dorsal. That's how I do it anyway. There's lots of variations.

I do the same. Seems to work well for me.

Who knows....Maybe the Ice Shanty ICE FISHING forum was mistaken for teachers anonymous!

More to the point i use cut up suckers A LOT for bait for a variety of fish. Pike, I'd go whole suckers.

Personally I use a quick strike rig on anything over 8" but use the same as you for those bait fish under the 8" mark.
