Title: suckers for bait
Post by: Mogi on Dec 13, 2013, 08:08 AM
Hey all. I kept a a couple of suckers from my last outing to use for pike bait. What is the best way to use them. Whole? Heads? Cut up pieces? All of the above? Thanks in advance.

I rig em just like I would a smelt. Quickstrike rig, two trebles on a steel leader, hook one in the head and one near the dorsal. That's how I do it anyway. There's lots of variations.

I do the same. Seems to work well for me.

Seriously!  Another fantastic example of how "helpful" people can be.
Who knows....Maybe the Ice Shanty ICE FISHING forum was mistaken for teachers anonymous!

More to the point i use cut up suckers A LOT for bait for a variety of fish.  Pike, I'd go whole suckers.

Had some of my best luck late winter with a dead sucker single treble through the dorsal.

Fished em whole today on Salmon lake. No luck but it can be pretty slow there i hear.Mt-Ed try lending a hand instead of bashing. You might find it rewarding.

Ok, I'll be the donkey for ya MR-Ed...

The guy missed the word for, a comma, and a period in my world.

"I like to hook them in the dorsal fin for 12" and under, anything bigger I've never used. GOOD LUCK"

Why ya gotta harsh on him.  All he was doing is sharing his experiences with the world.

Thanks for sharing 4Reel.

Personally I use a quick strike rig on anything over 8" but use the same as you for those bait fish under the 8" mark.

Keep it classy IS!

Jay
