Went out today. Main lake is still wide open. Danielson on the east side of the lake had 2-3" of ice at the launch. Walked on and fished by sandy shores in coteau bay just off the launch. Good 4-5" in 15 fow. Looked like I was the first one on. Didn't go more than 40' off shore. Jumbo perch was the only thing biting.

Today the main lake at the dam is wide open with water fowls. Pumphouse bay is mostly open. Coteau Bay is partially frozen with 6 inch of ice off the boat launch.

Toonfisher, I went and observed your waterfowl this morning at Danielson and then Coteau. The ice towards the mouth of the Danielson Harbour is very thin; no more than 1.5 inches right by the shore. I did pop a hole in 3 ft of water and got a fairly aggressive series of strikes from the same fish, but that was all.

Coteau ice was far safer, and I drilled among old holes out to 20 ft. A few big marks put in an appearance and closed on the bait, but none would commit. A handful of perch prevented a total skunking, but even the 9 inch "jumbo" got to swim free.

As the Canadas streamed overhead, I was thinking I should have grabbed the Beretta instead of the Fenwick this morning.

Is Coteau the big bay on the North End where the visitors center is.. I sometimes mix this up with Danielson

The Danielson launch is on the Northeast side of the lake. From Saskatoon you turn south before crossing the dam and go through the Provincial Park entrance.

Coteau Bay is the body of water that defines the Northwest tip of Lake Diefenbaker. Cross the dam, go past the Visitor Centre and look for the Provincial boat launch on your left.

Bring your ice gear for the bay. Bring your open water tackle to fish in front of the Visitor Centre.

6 inch, but open water at the exit channel, so be careful. Caught 20ish perch up to 12 inch and 5 small walleyes.

Is there any more open water that would be accessible from shore, other than in the river? Like, that you could go for a swim in?

The main lake around the dam is wide open bar some drifting ice pile. The mouth of pumphouse Bay and the exit channel of coteau Bay are open.

Was out in Birsay last weekend. It was neat to see the ice being broken up and washed in by the waves. Sounded like glass breaking.

I tried for a while at Coteau Bay yesterday fishing in different spots between 15 - 20 FOW. Ice was about 9 inches deep, unfortunately we did not catch anything, I do not have a camera and did not bring the flasher so not sure if there was anything down there that just would not commit or if there was nothing there at all.

One shack outside Tufts Bay. People have been fishing in Elbow Harbour, but I haven't seen any tracks heading out onto the main lake yet. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gives it a try today with the better temps. Always check for yourself and don't rely on others.

I fished Coteau the other day and there was 22" of ice. My buddy took a swing through Danielson on the way home and said there was an Ice Castle out from the boat launch and someone was fishing outside the mouth of the boat launch bay.

Also snow coverage decent on the main lake? Might bring a couple sleds to explore further out.

I tried for burbs outside tuffs near a 100' drop off,,, we fiahed in 35' of water. Burbs were slow ended up catching more on jaw jackers in 22' of water. I think because that's the largest sand flat area. Still slower then other years it seems.

Terrific day on the west end of the lake yesterday. The first drop was hammered by an aggressive keeper walleye and we never had to leave where we parked to get marks and bites. We iced 30 sauger and walleye, with our friendly competition ending at 15 apiece. Our neighbours on the ice; and grandad and his grandson, kept pace as well. Mooneye, burbot, and a jumbo perch showed up to add variety. With the light winds, gorgeous temperatures plus a tailgate barbecue dinner, it was pretty much a perfect outing.

Snow has melted. Driving on is easy at Danielson park.  Ice is thicker than in February. Found plenty of whitefish in shallow water.

Same report. Ice was 2'+ all over, but some places have water pooling.

The perch were out and some uninterested Whitefish. The Burbot didn't show up until we went to bed and the jaw jackers started going off.

Never camped out before but boy it's hard to sleep when the ice sounds like it's collapsing and exploding around us, we didn't sleep well. The Burbot made it worth it.

Nice haul ToonFisher!

I too am curious speckspotter as to when the bite for the Burbs got going.  It seems to be pretty slow for them this year.  Not too much be mentioned across all threads.   Hopefully they will pick up soon...as the season is almost over.

I was swimming in the water with the burbot downstream of the Coteau Creek Power Station on March 15th...We definitely found some but it felt like we missed the serious mating season, it seems to happen more at the beginning of March.

Awesome photos Paraaronoid!

I was out at Pelican Pointe recently at LML and I would agree. Traditionally, this is pretty good spot to come across burbot in March. I only saw two…and they had zero interest in my hook. I can only assume the spawn must have been earlier this winter.

Well I was south of Etter's on LML today after pike. I got one incidental burbot in about 5 fow. There were some guys out a bit further on a big flat 8-9 feet deep and they had a PILE of burbot that they were cleaning. I'm not sure if they had a fabulous morning bite or if they had spent the night, but they had gotten into the lawyers big time.

Thanks to the stranger if your on here for the advice on ice conditions In coteau near the narrow
Would have been a sketchy situation had I driven on

Looked like it had opened and refroze and 4” of ice , few weeks ago there was 20” +

Also looks like possible gas well or just something strange .. on the north side of that narrow as well to watch for
