Spawning season for Perch?
« on: Mar 08, 2015, 09:01 PM »
When is the spawning time for them?

Just wondering cause yesterday I was out and caught 3 perch, 2 females and 1 male.  Both females were loaded to the max. with eggs while the male was loaded with his white juice.

Just seems very early in the year to be ready for spawning...

Perch can appear ready to spawn for many weeks.  The answer on when they spawn depends on who you ask.     ;)2

They spawn when water temps are in the upper 40's to low 50's. They appear ready this early as up to 30 percent of their body weight is eggs.

Photoperiod obviously plays a role too.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.
