Barbed or not....
« on: Jan 08, 2016, 05:16 AM »
This might be a silly question but do you guys fish barbed hooks? Maybe you do or don't depending on species? I had a lot of problems last year with trout swallowing the hook then a miserable time trying to save them.

aways use barbed hooks, with free wheeling spool its to easy for fish to get away, cut down your time to set the hook and avoid that deep hook set.I use treble hooks on all my rigs works very well with a jawjacker style, once the bait is hit the rod sets the hook

I always use barbed hooks when I use trout for bait. If you use barbless hooks I guess it's better for the pike ms musky, but the trout come off the hook too easily.

Barbed for food, barbless for fun.
Just add water.

I use number 4 or 6 Gamakatsu octopus hooks for trout fishing. I rarely hook any fish deep with them and have a very high hooking percentage. Well worth the money.

Have used circle hooks for years...
No yank & crank, just a slow easy pull,
fish will hook themselves..
And, I go barbless, still have a good catch & release count........
Be safe.........
