Making ice fishing jigs
« on: Dec 03, 2018, 10:17 PM »
I am wanting to start making my own ice fishing jigs but I literally have no knowledge of how to do so. Just wanting to get some information on what I need or some videos I can watch to learn the process.

Thanks in advance!

grab a fly tie vise and go to it.  you can make it simple or hard p to you.

these are easy to make and look and work super.  I imitated "jeffs jigs" since they were back ordered. lol https://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/river_scum/river_scums%20album2/IMG_2925.jpg

Like River Scum said, just start. "There are no rules in Fly Tying," Go on YouTube and type in Fly Tying or Tying Ice jigs.

Here you go river_scum...

And here's at least one way to do it: https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=319675.msg3397144#msg3397144

Like they said, you can do a lot with a little. All that's really required is a bit of imagination and a direction.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Jeff's Jigs have been one of my favorites the last two years.  i bought some of that Loon UV glue to attempt to make my own.  we'll see what happens.
To the OP grab a cheap vise and give it ago.  I have made some horrible looking jigs that caught fish in the past.  I haven't managed to get very good at it, but I usually browse youtube a bit and then jump right in.

I make  “wire worms” with nymph hooks and lead wire. The lead is wrapped around the shank of the hook in a vise, or it can be done free hand.  I use fingernail polish to add color, but plain without paint can be killer too.  Simple, easy and cheap.

They make a thin, thick and extra thick. Thin is good to put nice clear coat on stuff. The thick stuff you still need to build layers. Keep a moving hand and zap with the uv light when it's where you want it....repeat.
