Portage Lake Walleye question
« on: Feb 06, 2012, 08:05 PM »
Just curious if those of you using swedish pimples, or other spoons, out on portage tip them with a full minnow, or just a head or tail. Last night I was using a pimp with a full small minnow and had two nice walleye swim past (on the camera) giving it little to no attention. That set up kills the pike but i was just curious if i should maybe down size to get those walleyes to hit.

I always use a full minnow on Portage Lake!  I've seen guys catch eyes on bare pimples with no bait at all same goes for jigging raps!  Who knows when their finicky they just don't bite!

I mostly use a full medium size fat head also, but there has been times when i did good just on a minnow head.  When there not it a biting mood i dont think it matters what you have on, they just ingore your presentation.

It can be VERY frustrating when they will not hit anything. I think those fish are pretty spoiled with all the Smelt, Alewives, Spottails, Ruffes, Perch, Bugs etc.. It always is tough this time of year. I could see my jig down 16 ft the other day! clear water. Sometimes they like very little movement on the jig end, and yes downsizing can work, so can upsize. Keep Jigging, thats what i do. Good luck!~
