What works for jigging bows?
« on: Nov 23, 2017, 06:03 AM »
I've never tried jigging for bows but would like to give it a try but I have no ideas on what to use.  I've only fished for them with tip ups but going to give a hip rod a try.  Any info would be greatly appreciated

I’m going to preface this by saying I almost never target bows. That said I have caught a few on a small gold Hopkins shortie with a small smelt tip on it. A buddy of mine that targets them more usually fishes 10-12 fow with small panfish tubes or flutter spoons.
Cheers,
Keith

I've done well with little tear drop tungsten jigs from fiskars with little plastics on it. Jigging in shallow waters with sandy bottom.

I don't get out fishing for 'em as much as I'd like, but flutter spoons, tungsten jigs, small "buggy looking" plastics, waxies have worked. I'm sure alot of the iceflies out on the market would work as well. Butterworms are another good bait for them I'm told.

Rainbows are pretty dumb.... Any type of tube or jigging spoon should work. I like to go a little deeper when jigging for rainbows. I'll go closer to 6-8fow rather than 2-4fow.

I've done well with Chubby Darters and Jigging Raps.
