My $435.00 ice fishing day...NIGHTMARE!!!
« on: Mar 11, 2007, 03:57 PM »
Woke up this morning and finished up a work project...done by 10am...decided to join Lenz out on Bare Hill..

Then the fun began....5 minutes after leaving the house my wife calls and says "You need to come back home..we have an emergency"......

Last nite I left a jig stick on the porch for reel repair...still had a jig on it...somehow our cat was running around and got the jig hook caught in its stomach skin....my wife found her running around with 3 feet of flouro dragging behind her...I have no idea how she freed the line...I had my son get the snippers from the garage and attempt removal...all via cell phone....while talking, I hear a siren and look in my rear view...blue lights...I got pulled over...I told my son to deal with the cat and call me back...Got a $130 ticket for going 43 in a 30....I have a radar detector but apparently while loading my ice fishing gear into the front seat yesterday, I knocked the AC plug out of the dashboard...DOH....

Got to the ice and while walking out my phone rings...no go with hook removal...off to the vet hospital in acton
....$305.00 to sedate, remove hook, tetanus, antibiotics and all on a Sunday...Ugh...

I then proceeded to sit for three hours without a flag....Lenz pulled in a 2lb 6 oz LM

Then the final chapter..as I stood up to pack my gear..I get a flag and...go figure... a nice 3 lb 15oz LM...

Now Im sitting here at home licking my checkbook wounds.... :-[

Couldnt happen for a better reason though.... ;)

Some pics:

Karl, good thing you decided not to come with us today.  Slow doesn't even describe the afternoon I had.  Even the jiggin' was turned off.  Sounds like a tough day, ouch.  I had to repalce our dishwasher this week.  All I could think of is $800 could buy a nice vex or marcum and a camera.  Don't think I would win that battle.  One of our teachers paid out $2000 last week at the vet by the time they realized the kitten had swallowed an eraser....expensive surgery.  Can you say "dead cat"?  Great report, nice fish.  Hope we all have a better week.  The only question now......will we get one more weekend?

my cat grabbed a salt water plug dangling from a nail  it had a leader on it any way my girlfriend thuoght there was a fight between two guys in the front hallway .she goes out there and the cat has two front legs and mouth on the top trebble  and the rear two legs on the bottom treble the one point in its mouth came out its nose . So the cats hanging in mid air cause its not snapping 50 lb leader and I get the call I was at red top in bourne at there annual spring sale my girl is screaming the cat is screaming so I call my neighbor(know it all take charge union guy) he's ok so he goes over and takes care of it my girl had to hold the cat while my neighbor cut the hooks then I get home and the cat is running around like nothing happened my girls like the cat needs to go to the vet(all hysterical) so I call they tell me if the hooks went in and out two holes per puncture it will be fine and no need to go the cats will clean their own wounds .I'm glad I wasnt there I would have killed it to put it out of its misery but it was more scared than anything and its a good cat and my girl got scratched to hell hahaha ;D

Hey, I got a cat/fishing tackle story too.

Several years ago, I had gone trolling for salmon with smelts and hook harnesses. Well I left one of the smelts rigged with the harness and spinner blade and in the bottom of the boat in the backyard. I got up the next morning and saw the cat sitting outside on the window sill and noticed a quick flash in the area of the cat. It had tried to eat the smelt and hooked itself right in the lip with the harness and spinner hanging out of the mouth. I picked the cat up and tried to remove the hook by hand while holding the cat. WRONG IDEA!!! That cat berried it's claws in my legs and arms. Went and got the vise grips out of the shed, man I can't believe how much force those size 4 hooks could take. I had the cat suspended by the hook with its entire weight load. A couple of good shakes and the cat hit the ground and bolted, didn't see it for about a week. It did come back and never bothered any fishing tackle again, can ya believe it?

Not that it makes me feel any better about vets..

remember that the vet was 305..speeding ticket was 130

bottom line is I blew it...shoulda turned around instead of fishing...I def. wouldve got it out by myself...when she called the vet she asked how much and they said "around 75 - 100 bucks"...I didnt feel as bad

then it added up after that...RIPOFF...extort ion
