Either one. I own both. I just went out and got a Strikemaster 40v for $549. Got a chance to try it out a few weeks ago.
AWESOME! ........ and no more plugged carburetors from ethanol.

I got a first gen Ion that I am keeping around for days I fish walleye or early season ice. definitely a place for electric that for sure, probably 80% of the time electric is the way to go. I just know 3 feet of ice and a 10 inch hole, your asking a lot out of a battery.

1)Where the heck are you with 3' of ice?
2) Strikemaster 40v is so smooth, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I fish all over Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I have a big trip in Manitoba in March.

I was in central Saskachewan two weeks ago and there was already 25 inches of ice.

Hence my need to go with gas.

Well my Eskimo has treated me well through the years as has the Strikemaster. So I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Good luck with your purchase and the fishing, you lucky sonofagun.
Most of us in the lower 50 are praying for just a wee bit of ice.

Thanks Murph. good luck the rest of the season

I have an Eskimo Z71 (chipper style blades) and a Strikemaster (shaver style blades) mated to a Tanaka 350.  I prefer the Tanaka/Strikemaster combo myself.  Either one you pick should do the job.

So I didn't end up buying either. I found a lightly used Huqvarna 326ai25 for a good price and bought that. Pretty pumped for it. I have been looking for one for a while.

Thanks for you guys input.
