Hello fellow fisherman, I haven't been out at all this year but was wondering if the fishing has been good at all so far this ice season at loneys, I was thinking of maybe trying there sometime this week. And is it safe to drive out. Thanks for the input

fished there this past saturday. caught 100+ perch in 4 hours. non stop action. only 10-20 of them all were 9-11 inches, the rest were tiny. still crazy fun, gotta love buffalo pound for perch, i dont think i've ever caught less than 20 in an outing there.

It's funny.  I can barely ever find the perch in summer here, but in winter, as you describe, it's impossible to keep them off the hook.

Just saw a pic on facebook of a camper shack conversion floating in the water on buffalo. My guess is the ice is not too healthy.

Whose baby is this?  Does this qualify for the 1st Darwin Award for 2017-2018.  Come on people, its barely been above zero lately!

Wow, seems kind of strange the way the water and ice meet eachother in an almost perfect circle, whoever shack this is must be very upset and petrified at the same time.

if that thing sinks it'll be a heck of a spot to fish once it freezes over again.

Is this shack for real? Or previous year?  It's was supposed to be 12" of solid ice.  Shouldn't have thawed out that quickly!!!

Just saw a picture of another shack with a wheel sticking through the ice on buffalo requesting the owner get it the hell out there. No name or address on the shack.

This is real. Nobody should be thinking there is any "solid ice" when we've had whole days around +4. The ice was inconsistent before and even more unstable now. Even up north they've dealt with inconsistencies of up to 10" of ice depth, not to mention that white ice has less than half the capacity of clear solid ice.

I would advise not driving on any lake until we have our weather stabilize for a few days.

just my outside opinion but you guys down south would be crazy to drive on after these temperatures AND seeing pictures of a camper shack submerged.

That shack that broke through was just west of park view and I had talked to a couple of guys today that went to loney’s Last night and said their shacks were starting to sink into the ice a bit and had a hard time pulling them off. Too much flood water on the ice from what I’ve been told. Be safe everyone!!

Some of the locals pulled 6-7 shacks off of the ice near Loney's to prevent them from breaking through and sinking.  It was nice to see people lending a hand to others using the lake. Any word on the shack by Parkview? Has it been pulled out yet? The sun reflects off the shack and thins the ice out all the way around.  It doesn't take long in these temps for things to get dangerous.  Hopefully we get the cooler temps next week.

The launch pass for Loney's and Sand Point is 40$ for the year (Summer and Winter seasons) and is available through the Resort Village of South Lake.  Fees go to maintain the launches.

Realonebigfish welcome to the forum!  Those are a couple of nice pike.  Did you catch those jigging or on tipups?  How is the ice conditions out at BP?

We caught the pike using tip-ups. There were trucks on the ice, but we just walked on.

There was around 30 cm (12") of ice in front of the provincial park yesterday when my son and I went out.

Drove across the causeway on the way home today, shacks as far as you could see either way.
