Its a reel that is mounted to the side of your shack with a rattle in it. When the fish takes, the rattle goes off letting you know that you have a fish on!!!!  ;)

If you have a Gander Mt near you they sell the Rattle reels that mount to a shanty Ive got them mounted on a 2' peice of doll with a spike on the end used similar to a tipup just push it in the ice lean it over the center of the hole so the line goes down the center and set the tipup flag.

If you can get any spools that bulk line comes on they work pretty good.

Just put some BBs,small jingle bells, or marbles in them and put a dowel through the center hole and attach to the wall or mount the dowel to a large spring clamp so the rattle reel can be portable.

we take empty snuff cans and put anything in there that will make some noise then glue round pieces of wood (cardboard would work) to the sides of the can to keep the line on.  then take a chunk of wood and drill a hole through that and through the "reel" you have made, shove a dowel through the reel thing so it can spin easily and glue one end of the dowel into the piece of wood.  ten just screw the piece of wood onto the wall and start fishing.  (this would take some modifying to work in a portable shack but works great in the permanet one)

HOPE YOU UNDERSTOOD ALL THAT!
