DCL ice, land, or boat
« on: Feb 10, 2017, 01:07 PM »
Heading to DCL 17-20 Feb for our annual family ski trip. Normally I ice fish, because I don't snow ski. I've been watching the webcams a lot and I don't see any boats around the state park area or anywhere else for that matter. Does anyone have experience launching a boat from the state park during the winter season? I was contemplating fishing the state park area anyway by ice, land, or by boat. Aside from no dock, is there any other reason why bringing my boat is a bad idea or likely a waste of time? Wind is a concern though I can manage some wind with drift socks, etc... The temps next Saturday don't look any worse than when I fish the Potomac and Lake Anna most of the winter. If I don't fish, then I will be stuck entertaining my mother-in-law which is no good:-(

Most likely bringing boat will be a waste of time. DNR will keep ramp closed if there is any ice at all on lake. Teen temps next week will put some ice on lake.

I just looked at the forecast and it does not look promising. We are spending the weekend at the lake for our annual ice fishing trip too.  I can't think that I'm even bringing my gear.  If someone can convince me that there is a 5% or better chance of ice, I'd pack it.

They are packed.   I guess we'll give it a shot from the bank.

I'm stopping by my boat today and pulling my spinning gear.

Does anyone know if the dam area is accessible by car and then by foot and if fishing is allowed from shore in that area?
