Open water is colder than hard water
« on: Feb 19, 2018, 04:09 PM »
Well folks I am done on the hard water. I took a few guys out today and brought some extra fly rods. I lost a really nice fish that broke me off...i think it might have been a pike. Tough day and miserable conditions. Pouring rain and ice cold water. Was able to walk on water right next to the open. Should have brought some ice gear... ha. Got biteme260 on his first trout. Congrats man.  Nice to meet you. See you guys on the other site. Hope to run into some of you guys and share a drift and a beer.

That does not look like cold weather fishing gear!  Looks like a hypothermia suit.  Nice trout!!!

Yeah. Brian looked cold. I had insulated waders and neoprene socks along with rain jacket and I was cold. It was raining pretty damn hard. It was still better then the couch. A couple of more weeks and it should be prime

Olive sparrow. Always does well there in cold water. I lost mine on a clouser

Any time. Don't blame me if you get the trout bug. It's an addictive chase

Brian, you need to pick up a pair of Merino wool long underwear.  They are the bomb.  The ones I have are from Minus 33.  They make several different weights.  Not cheap but will last for years.  Wick moisture away and do not hold oder.  Those will warm up any pair of waders.  I wear mine to hunt in also.

Gutted it as soon as I got home showered while it was cooking to get my body heat back. I'll for sure buy something it was mainly my feet that had issues. Even in my micky mouse boots I could tell me feet were cold this was way worse.

They make Merino wool socks also.  You need insulated waders with boots in that kinda water.  Those boots aren't going to do anything for you if you get water in them though.

I loved the trout. I put lemons, garlic, parsley with salt and pepoer inside of it. Wrapped in foil and baked it. I'll get more and figure out how I like to do it.

try a little butter, dill, and brown sugar, added to that, on top fillets baked. one of my favorite ways.  gets kinda a candy glaze on top.
