good luck Matt! It's really ugly north of 8...

I can barely get out the driveway down here!  Trucks were no go awhile ago. Had to call in the heavy equipment to pull shacks off.   Boy is that tracked skid steer is a sweet outfit I couldn’t believe what it went through.

man, the bobcat idea is pretty good. but it sure does worry me about driving one on the lake. thats alot of weight all in one little area vibrating across the lake. we do have probably over 20'' tho.

12,000lb on the ice! The operator said he tried not to think about it.

They tried using one of those to clear off the race surface for a radar run at Bent's Camp, it took 2 days to get it out.

No worries, all you need to do is tell the local dnr where your shack is and that you will get it off as soon as the snow goes down enough to drive out. We have a good solid 28” of ice under that 2 feet of snow. Ice won’t go bad until all the snow is gone, then the sun can do its job.

Yeah we tried that eric.. He told us he doesn't like to give out extensions... We will see I guess.

Decided to not take the bobcat out. just too much water.

Going to have to start taking bets on ice out now. Some guys are thinking late april early may again. I see it off by mid april at the very latest. IDK.

I was on 28" of ice last April 11. I open water fished the opener. Less than 3.5 weeks to go from completely frozen to open in the middle.

How far out are you? I see two birds and one stone: get your shack off and make the Guinness book for world's longest drag with a come-along.

Isn't tomorrow the deadline for shacks north of 10?

I think Highway 64 is the north/south cutoff, and this Sunday March 17 is deadline

Maybe there will be enough melt-off by Sunday to make getting shacks off easier.

I don’t see how they can force you to get a shack off if it is impossible to get out to it because of snow and slush. There is plenty of good ice under that snow. If your local dnr is being a dick about it I would try going over his head to his boss.

The Wardens over in Vilas Co are too busy snatching snowmobilers to give a rats about shacks.

I tried calling the DNR the other day to see about getting some kind of extension. They said they will not give any extensions because they do not do that anymore.

All they told me was to keep trying and to call the warden on the 17th if its not off and explain to him what our circumstances were. I been out the last few days trying to pack a snowmobile trail down to freeze but there is just soo much water out there and temps seem to not be cooperating. Maybe by tomorrow it will be cold enough in the A.M. to drive out on a semi frozen trail.

Even my snowmachine was having troubles getting out and about on the lake. Its crazy out there. We did lose alot of snow tho. Which should help but not soon enough to beat the deadline i'm afraid.

Also they would not tell me what the penalty was for not having one off in time.

Just my little update :)  should make for a good late ice crappie season tho with all the ice thats still out there.

Pulled the shack off today. Trucks was a no go. Way too deep of water. Truck was bottoming out on the plow mounts.

Was able to borrow a buddies 700 wheeler with tracks. Was able to stay on top of crusty 2-3'' of ice/frozen slush. The multiple passes I made with the snowmobile was definitely a huge bonus from last week. Help freeze down a bit of a path.

A few tractors were out and about pulling some shacks off. They seemed to work well except with the one shack. Tractor made it just fine but the shack was just plowing slush/water the whole time and couldnt move it very far. Wheeled shacks over skids any day!
