I know that Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse had a few electric ice augers in stock the last couple seasons, so somebody must have one or seen them in use.
The problem living off the road system is trying to airfreight one out to a village.
Any feedback on the electric augers in Alaska?

I have a first gen ion around 5 years old now. Battery life is decent if kept warm and usually can get around 20 holes through 20 inches on a charge. Might want to check out the second gen ion with a better battery, led light and reverse. If you’re dealing with some thicker ice, which you probably are, I would look at getting a spare battery for sure. Another option would be to go with a Milwaukee M18 fuel mud mixer with your choice of auger bit. Have to add on some sort of plate to avoid losing your bit if it becomes detached when drilling. This. I just picked up a new Ion X, Extra XC5 battery, extra blades, Insulated Battery bag, and the quick release with anchor drill for $800. One of the best moves I have made. I ended up with about 140 (9-10" of ice) holes before I had to change batteries. I still have a place for my gas auger when I want to cover some water but this thing is fantastic!

I bought a 10” strikemaster this year and absolutely love it! Cuts so easy.

I'm interested, too. I'd love to hear some feedback from other folks in the interior - we're dealing with much colder weather and much thicker ice than the lower 48 does (although I guess northern Minnesota gets close sometimes!). And if nobody up here is running an electric auger that would be good to know, too.

OTZ is not on a road system, the options is buy an auger and have it airfreighted out.
Except the DOT/FAA regulations on transporting substantial size batteries on board an air freight aircraft.
They are absolutely forbidden on a passenger carrying aircraft.
The only was is the batteries need to remain in their original packaging
Factory sealed carton.
And then specially packaged for air transport.
The airfreight just flat out refuses to transport batteries any larger than a cordless power drill battery pack.

I've had the 50volt 10in. strike master for 2 years now. has double the hole cutting power of the reg. ion and cold doesn't affect the battery as much as the ion. only issue I've had is the same my friend has with his. overflow going into the hole while cutting makes it very difficult to continue cutting. not enough power. all brands are affected in the same way. keep your gas jobs for late season. other than that i love mine. only 23lbs.

I use the Drill/bit Combo. The M18 and a Pistol bit from eskimo do me right.
Im in NW colorado. we get a month or two of temps from -20 to -40 (-60 at times)
my ice gets to be 4 feet deep on one of my lakes.
all my lakes are at least a foot at this point.
I used my combo this saturday in 2+feet of ice and drilled around 30 holes on one 5ah lithium ion battery charge!

I fish almost the exact same ice and have the M18 with k drill with 8ahr battery last week did 30 + holes and have 3/4 charge left

I'm in Maine and have had gas and propane augers fishing for 35 years. Bought the 10"strikemaster this year. It's insane!!! It's so light I can hold in 1 hand moving around on wheeler with tracks, and listening fast. Reverse make cleaning the hole way faster. I set my 5 traps in the same time my buddy set 2.....I drilled his last 3 holes. I made an extension from stainless steel that slides inside auger and has a "set hole" every 6" when ice gets over 3 feet. You won't regret it
