Vinyl prism tape for Lure Mods?
« on: Nov 28, 2021, 01:14 PM »
Had a thought while going through my gear and noticing that some of my swedish pimples had the prismatic tape start to slide on them- could I use some kind of adhesive vinyl prism tape to modify my baits on the ice? And how can I do it cheaply?

Has anybody done this? If so- do you have any suggestions on what to use that won't break the bank?

I always have a roll of Glow Tape and have used it many times, soft and hard water fishing. I am sure prism would work also.

Check out Mad River tape or Witchcraft Tape Products.
We use their products all the time for customizing  lures.

Mad River has a ridiculous selection. Use their die cuts for flashers and salmon spoons. Thinking the trick will be applying the tape in the field.  Gonna' pack scissors with you? Also thinking peeling the backing off a small piece of tape would be a PITA in the house, let alone while sitting on a bucket on the ice. Guess it depends on the size of the pimple.

I brushed thread epoxy across mine to help the paint and tape hold up, or just the tape on ones I didn't paint.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of modifying a bunch of plain silver kastmasters & other stuff I have at home, then changing them up as needed if I don't like how something looks.

Or taking some pre-cut strips out with me in case I don't have a color that's working. Still kinda new to this, and my overall selection is still somewhat limited. Heck, I don't even have and of iceshanty's favorite spoon (flutterfish) yet.
